From what I've seen, Bones has a sick shot. Put him with BB, BB can set him up all day.

Hate to knock Bennett anymore than I at times do, but this is a very true statement. When given the chance he does look good...but the points on the scoresheet just aren't there yet. And when it comes down to it...getting on the scoresheet is how you win games.

I think he needs to turn some heads early in the season.

Exactly, some here have always been blaming the coach for his misuse but now that the four lines are stacked there is no more excuse for BB not to produce. It's bloom or bust now then ever.

Unless he finds a niche role in the bottom 6.

Looking at our UFA's going forward it looks pretty good

Next year
Zatkoff
Lovejoy
Perron

The following year
Scuderi
Dupius
Bonino

Rutherford should be able to sign Perron or Bonino if he wants. Let the others walk. Afford pay attention ncreases to Maata and Pouliot as they come due. Probably, Perron is not signed to afford Maata, Plotnikov and/ or Bennett increase if they perform well this year.

Lovejoy gotta be gone by next year, right? Right?

Zatkoff is so inexpensive. Less than Murray, less than $20,000 more than Jarry. What if he has a decent year?

Theyre going to roll 4 lines. Save Sid and Geno wear and tear over the course of the season. Bennett with Bonino on a 4th line would be fine in that scenario. Only problem would be the skating with Sundqvist on that line.

Have Fehr go up against top lines or shutdown units in tandem with Sid's line. If Dupuis is back healthy, play him with Fehr.

I'm starting to get really nervous about our D situation guys.
We have a nice top-4 of:

Maatta-Letang
Cole-Pouliot

But the top pairing is injury prone and Cole isn't exactly a guarantee to have as good of a season that he had with us late last year. Then our bottom pairing and 7th D is some unpleasant mish-mash of Lovejoy, Dumolin, Clendenning, Scuderi, and Erixon. Clendenning and Erixon are basically AHL level defenders who (I think) have to go through waivers to be sent down, and we all know about Scuderi. I dunno, I am thinking that this year we may be held back by our defense.

We've lost Despres, Niskanen, Martin, Erhoff, Orpik, and Engelland over the past 3 years on D. That is an entire NHL D squad. Granted, it doesn't have top-end talent, and Engelland blows, but that wouldn't be the worst NHL defense in the league, made up solely of players we've LOST.

Ummm... political talk is not welcomed here. Period. The thread title is a pun. It's simply a play on words. Stop being so sensitive and let's get back to hockey.

i don't enjoy the constant framing of the real ways bennett has been misused so far in his career as "excuses" because it seems to imply once again that even though people pretend to acknowledge that he hasn't been set up to succeed, they still think it's still his fault for not producing on the garbage 3rd and 4th lines that he's been a part of. expectations for this kid have been out of whack since he was drafted and the aggression towards him certain people have for not meeting them is annoying. this is a guy we should be rooting for, his success is good for everyone, he's not scuderi and kunitz and adams and yadda yadda and we're just random internet people on hfboards, yet it seems like so many people are so excited to see him fail, to what end, who knows, but it's obviously not out of wanting the best for the team

Sundqvist-Fehr-Dupuis?

Swap Kunitz to the top 6 if Plotnikov isn't ready or isn't good enough.

Those are the lines I'd like to see in the bottom six. It wouldn't bother me too much if Sundqvist and Kunitz were swapped either.

Like many have said, I really like the idea of Fehr-Dupuis being the basis around a shutdown line and I also think Bonino-Bennett would work really well offensively.

I am all aboard a Bonino-Bennett line. With the way Bonino drives play and sets up his linemates, I think that is a great way to get Bennett going and to use his creativity. If Kunitz is the trigger man that is fine with me.

While I do advocate shipping Kunitz out, if he is here, that is a role I am perfectly comfortable with him in.

Because there is a faction of posters here that would rather be right than see the kid do well and have to eat their words.

They will deny it, but it's easy to see through the BS.

Posted it in the last thread but if we can unload Scuderi somehow

Kunitz for Smid + 2nd

Flames have 9 d right now and will need to deal someone. He makes 3.5 so its a bit of a savings

Fitzgerald just left and has a good idea what the Pens are looking for and what the prices are for some of our forwards. Shero may have an attachment to some of those players (namely perhaps Bennett given that he drafted him).

Devils have a glut of Dmen they're willing to move for a forward.

There could be a match. Fingers crossed it includes Kunitz or Scuderi but given their lack of forwards and the fact that they're going through a rebuild, Bennett would probably be their main target. Interesting...

Smid is interesting. Tough to judge him. Could suck. Could fill that need in the top 4.

Think that's just the natural order of things with Ray.

That the Devils have 6 competent guys on D (or at least 5) and a couple more on the way doesn't necessarily mean he's willing to part with any of them. If he wanted Kunitz, my best guess would be that he would want to trade draft picks. Which I'm not necessarily against.

What do we need? Just a LW?

I'm not sure we even need that. Depends on what they really think about Wilson and Oskar.

Any 2nd pair D we assemble presently is a huge gamble. Insofar as the Penguins need anything on paper, it's a right shooting defenseman who's more of a 3 than a 5, preferably of the bigger/stronger/meaner variety. And it's not even 100% that that'll be necessary.

Getting rid of Scuderi's contract is the Penguins most-pressing need by far.
