The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Paul Stastny to a 7 years contract worth $7,500,000 per season with a no trade clause.
"It was no secret that we were very interested in Stastny and we are thrilled to have him signed for the next 7 seasons. Stastny will have the chance to play on our first line with two good friends, countryman Max Pacioretty and former teammate Chris Stewart. We believe that they will have great chemistry together. This signing is another statement to show that we are ready to contend for many years to come."
We're happy to announce the signing of free agent left wing Thomas Vanek to a 7 year contract in Vancouver. The contract comes to a total of $63 million, with a NMC for the first 5 years, and a LNTC for the last 2 (10 team list he will accept a trade to).
This team has seen some major changes in the off-season. Last season we saw an aging line-up that played a gritty style of hockey but without the speed or offensive abilities needed to outscore the opposition. We decided it was time for a re-tool in Vancouver. We were adamant from the beginning this was not a rebuild process, and we were looking to compete his upcoming season. Landing a premium talent like Vanek helps us do that.
This contract was a tough one to work out with many teams interested in Thomas's services, but we're happy with the overall structure and pricing of it. While the yearly salary is higher than we originally wished to go, we see a league poised for major growth and inflation in the coming years, and annual salary of $9 million will be quite average for this league's star players.
The Anaheim Ducks general manager Habsfannick was very pleased today to unveil his 2 newest signings, forwards Matt Moulson and Mike Cammalleri. "It has been clear throughout the offseason that our goal was to add veteran leadership and goal scoring ability, something we believe Matt and Mike will greatly help with" said the GM at the teams press-conference. 31 year old Moulson signed a 5 year deal for $28.75M ($5.75M per) with a limited no-trade clause while 31 year old Cammalleri signed a 3 year deal worth $12.75M ($4.25M per). Word around the organization is that Moulson will slot in on the first line with Getzlaf and Perry while Cammalleri will play on the 2nd line in a support role.
Salo and Mitchell are two players we felt showed they could still play reliable minutes in the NHL last season, and we are pleased to bring them aboard as Canuck veterans on our team.
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed a trio of forwards to finish their off season. Steve Downie has signed a 3 year deal that will pay him $3.25 million per year. Daniel Winnik signed a 2 year deal worth $1.5 million per year. Dustin Penner inked a 1 year deal worth $2.5 million
