Unless something has changed since the WJC, his wheels are a concern.
Seabs was never the most fleet of foot but he managed to carve out a pretty good NHL career. It all comes down to the player learning their strengths and weaknesses and playing within their own limitations.

All true, to an extent. It all depends on how much of a deficiency the skating is. And imo, Seabs was a stronger skater at 19 than Del Mastro is. His skating looked really labored at the WJC.

It helps when you play with a guy like Duncan Keith too.

Man... what a player, what a pick, Hawks got super lucky with this pick!!!

This 6 foot 5, 210+ LD checks every box, he has even found a very nice point production.
Tremendous blue line player & stay at home type of defensive d-man, who can QB a PP from the blue line.

Since he was drafted, he has scored 7 goals and about 100 assists in 117 games
+51 with 170 penalty minutes

Has his skating improved to an NHL level? I think that’s why he dropped. Would love for him to be a Cernak type of player.

Somewhere along the way, the Hawks drafting brass changed their tune and started to go after either bigger or more physical Dmen.....Vlasic is huge, Harding is both...Del Mastro and Phillips have good size, there are a few others to include as well......you start to wonder whether Davidson's mindset started to permeate Kelly and Bowman a bit.

It was said somewhere it was when Ryan Stewart, who was since fired when Davidson took over, began getting more input. He was the AGM of scouting promoted to AGM when Kyle was too.

But Davidson and Donegey seemed to keep that direction. It's just Kelley Bowman seemed to praise skill above all in most decisions. Skill over skating or size.

Unless it's improved since the WJC, his skating is quite a bit sub-NHL average.

What part of his skating is sub-average? Straight-line speed to try to catch upto a counter rusher if hevpinched or fumbled and list puck control in his o-zone...sure he will not be ablectobxatctach back up..Staright llne speed without the puck ...sure sub-average...butvrishing speed with power and agility and control is way above average for a dman...lateral mobility way above average..hevis nit hoping to be decked outvof his boots...Only the few occasions where he is too aggressive going deep into o-ozenevon attacking and his rush gets stopped when he is in too deep or ifvhe fumbles a puck abd loses it at the ooo's blue line and a counter rush happens...only then is his below average straight line skating speed going to be a problem..butvthe usually do not happen much except in games he gets too crazy trying to pinch too deep in...usual his pucptotection, agility turns with and without the puck ate superior to many nhlbdmem.

Sure...have a straight line foit race not carrying the puck past checkers and he will be below average in such races..butbin alk other aspects of skating.. agility, turns, closing with correct angles =alk above the average...He can rush the puck with control piwr and ability to evade checkers better than our current dmen.. His backwards sjatinfbus better too.

Murphy and Tinordi are below average nhk skating dmen both straight line and skating with puck puck control..
And somebody is criticizing Del Nasyro's skating...no way.

He has well above average 4xway directional skating.

Only in a straight line with out the puck "catch up" situation " can his lack of straight line speed be an issue...Luckikyvitvdoes nit occur that often.

Some times he may get crazy being over aggressive on pinches or too deep ruses to the net ..In thise situations if caught he does not have Seth Jones speed to catch up abd back-check a transition rush...but mist games hevdoes not overdue it taking such risks..

stewart was garbage, davidson knew exactly who to fire and bring back immediately after getting the job
