He has slower acceleration. He is basically Spezza - he can go fast it just takes time to reach top speed.

That's an exaggeration. Sure his acceleration isn't what it used to be but it's still far quicker than the vast majority of NHL'ers.

 No he most certainly is not. He has slightly worse acceleration than when it was top-3 in the league. Not Spezza-calibre acceleration.

Not sure how this is hard to understand. He's a great skater now, but before the injury the guy looked like he skated in an early 2000s EA sports game.

You watch his three step burst now compared to his three step burst before Cooke and its different. Right now he pulls away from people because he's faster than they are, whereas before, the guy was suddenly 5 feet ahead of the other guy. There's a reason if you go back to GDTs at that time people joked about his silly video game speed burst button, and people don't nowadays.

I called it beep-beep road runner speed. Crazy how he could wait with the puck behind the net, and take off from a stand still away from an opposing player skating in with momentum. Two strides and he was gone.

Still impressive, just not the stupid silly burst from a standstill.

Lmao, wut da hell is dis?

Karlsson still has the best acceleration in the league, imo his acceleration before and now it's almost similar.

It's the agility that only appears to be diff. He used to be accelerating brilliantly before while crisscrossing and pivoting which is what made a world of difference cause normally you lose speed as you do so.

If we watch Karlsson now and before accelerate in straight line I believe there's minimal if any difference.

Who remembers his game against Montreal a month ago? He was behind 4 Habs and he still scored ahead of them all in like 4 seconds. His straight line acceleration perfectly fine.

Karlsson was a man possessed tonight. He had one of the best game of his career. He was rock solid defensively, created a lot of scoring chances and he even played very physical. If this is the way Karlsson plays in the playoffs I'm in!

It really is depressing that once he leaves the ice the team doesn't even know which way to clear the puck.

Just so much better than everyone on the ice. He was completely leading by example, but no one followed.

He's played just as well as Subban has these past couple of games. Subban's just getting more attention because of his personality out there but both have been very good this series

Subban has a very dangerous slap shot and is a strong skater.
Erik Karlsson is playing a different game out there which PK subban on his best night is not capable of playing.

Karlsson was so much fun to watch last night.

Man, what a game he played.

What also makes him fun to watch, is how much fun he has playing.

I wish he would watch the tape of him playing this game and emulate it going forward. His play without the puck was outstanding. Usually, he's a bit inattentive and plays a kind of zone coverage the can often leave him beat one-on-one. During this game, he was concentrating on the man, boxing people out left and right, beating them to loose pucks.... and yet it didn't affect his offensive game.

If the Sens can add another top 4 d-man and reduce Karlsson's minutes, we may see more of this play.

I cant believe we witnessed the game Karlsson played last night and we still lost.

What a ****ing embarrassment.

If Karlsson gets his skating back or improves it a bit more and gets more "man meat" he will be the best player in the game. Absolute animal.

And people said he doesn't raise his game in the playoffs or isn't built for it.

Karlsson has outplayed Subban in the series, no doubt about that.

They can't shut up about Subban when people talk about EK it's crazy

Karlsson is in the Weber + Doughty tier, Subban is in the Suter, McDonaugh, Pietrangelo tier.

Honestly don't see why there is even a comparison. Maybe if Habs fans keep saying there is it'll become one :dunno:

Habs fans starting threads on main board about Karlsson being the best defenceman in the league.
What have we become?

I really really really hope he works on getting back his full skating in off-season. He will be a different dynamic force if he gets back to 2012-2013 skating ability. It'll also help tremendously if he wants to put on more weight. He'll still be fastest in the league with more muscle to handle the physical bodies.

Come on, Erik. Work your *** off, you can be the top 5 D ever if you get back to that skating level.

He is absolutely wasted on this team, which is such a shame. All his good work is undone by 4 of his colleagues on the blueline. And when he's not on, the entire team goes to ****.

I think Melnyk next year opens the wallet.

He has to. We now know what some of our young guys are capable of and we CAN NOT be wasting the prime years of a generational talent.

Top 3 D and top 6 F and we're set. Murray, it's time for a splash. The top 3 D could be gotten for free and the top 6 F through some leeway.

This is what we must do in UFA. At the very least we get a top 3 D.
