Mathews?!

HaHa!

Where did you get that from?

He's not a top-level player, Mathews is like....Bo Horvat, Rickard Rakell, Brian Little, Shaun Monahan....he's THAT level of player

He's not a Kopitar, Bergeron, Mc David, Crosby, Malkin, Barkov, Stamkos, Pavelski, Getzlaf quality player NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!

Hahahahaahah!

Can you not see what's right in front of your eyes without checking with the Toronto media to see if they agree?

Try it! You'll see a good offensive player......but not even CLOSE to a REAL #1 center.....and to say " Hmmmmm, Mc David and Mathews.....yeah, that fits" IS HILARIOUS!!!

You may need to take a break from TV, go look at net porn or something....T.O produced net porn of course

Please stop.

Would’ve loved a deal involving Point, one of Tampa’s many many maaaaany good forward prospects and a first rounder.

Obviously Point was out of the question so a package of Foote, 1st-rounder, two of Tampa’s rookies- I would’ve said yes to at the trade deadline.

Is it a lot from Tampa? Yes- but the point of a team is to win a Stanley cup and not stockpile value on a bookshelf.

Kucherov and Karlsson’s contract ends at the same time, that’s your primary window to win.

You get two good cracks at the Stanley Cup with Stralman, Hedman, Sergachev and Karlsson at the backend with Vasy and you’ve got a good forward group.

Once Kucherov gets his payday you let Karlsson walk or try to resign, knowing you threw everything at the wall for two years.

It’s not even worth trading Karlsson now, the ask is too high for someone to pay with only 1 year left. All efforts should be to resign.

If there were any resolve to move Karlsson he would be gone already. The best opportunity would have been at the deadline. It didn't happen. It didn't happen last Summer when the Senators could have totally cashed in with expansion leverage. Now, after some translated quotes, they give up on him? Hmm. If Sens are sick of it and Karlsson is hating it and Trudeau won't pass legislation, then sure, trade him at the draft.

If I'm Ottawa I announce I want two firsts (2 x 2018 or 2018 and 2019) and a player (RHD). Then, I sift through the thirty offers and see what I can work with. If I cannot improve my team, I pass and deal this player later.

I think any Karlsson trade took a major turn last night, considering the Sens are 99.9% going to keep their 4th overall pick this year. That means, if they win the lottery next year, they have no protection and lose out on Jack Hughes, who is a franchise-altering talent. They are going to do everything in their power to be competitive next year, so dealing Karlsson for picks, prospects won't cut it anymore IMO.

I could see a potential trade for win-now players, such as...

TO COL: Karlsson and Ryan

TO OTT: Barrie, Kerfoot, Compher, pick

While it would not be popular with most Leafs fans if Ottawa offered Ek/Chabot for Austin the Leafs don't even think about it they take the deal in a heartbeat.

So let me get this straight. Leafs trade a generational franchise center (who according to HF value has plummeted because A)Hes a leaf and B) because he had a bad playoff) whos TWENTY on his ELC plus more for EK who has two years left, wants out who has injury issues is 27 and just had a tragedy we wont know how it affects him. So am I seeing this right?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Let me catch my breath

HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

P.s. Its Auston

LMAO there won’t be anywhere close to 30 offers. Teams that aren’t in a position to compete over the next two years won’t make an offer, teams that are set in their defense won’t make an offer, and teams that don’t have two firsts and a RHD to spare won’t make an offer.

What you need is a team that made the playoffs this year, is a Karlsson away from being a serious contender, and either plans to resign him or is willing to blow a good chunk of their future on one Cup-or-bust ride with him. Such a team isn’t going to give you a roster player worth much of anything and their firsts are likely to be in the middle of the round at best.

Or we get McDonagh (who unlike Karlsson actually fits our needs), give up only prospects we can afford to lose, and keep Foote to strengthen our defense down the road and extend our window. Yeah, I like Yzerman’s choice much better.

Feels like Karlsson controls where he would get traded to now that there is only one year left on this contract (if it happens).

I don't think this deal gets done because it just feels like there are too many risks on both Ottawa and whoever is looking to trade for him. Give up a ton and he tests free agency? Thats rough. Karlsson makes it clear he will only sign with x or y team? Ruins leverage for Ottawa in trying to create a bidding war at the draft.

Maybe I'm wrong and there is a perfect partner/situation out there. I'll be surprised though.
