What salaries coming off the books? You mean Myers? First of all Myers is playing top four minutes for the Canucks this season so he will need to be replaced and that will cost money. Second, OEL’s buyout penalty goes up by over $2 million next season. So we’re talking maybe $1-2 million in savings which won’t be anywhere near enough to cover Pettersson and Hronek’s raises.

This season will likely go down as the high water mark for this Pettersson/Hughes/Demko era of Canucks hockey due to the bargain contracts they have Petey and Hronek on as well as the fact that relief from OEL’s buyout was maximized this year. And despite that they’re still not a serious Cup threat. I wouldn’t blame Pettersson for looking at that and deciding he has a better chance to win elsewhere.
Canucks have 37.4M to re sign Pettersson and Hronek OEL cap factored in. Give or take 18M after. They have 17-19M to re sign some of their depth players and also sign a FA if they wish. The following year, they have 17.3M of cap space (not including another cap increase but OEL’s 4.9M factored in) with Boeser coming off the books.

Canucks have a batch of prospects who will contribute on their ELC’s especially on defense.

Save yourself the trouble and just be quiet. You just spew nonsense garbage and lies.

But if it wasn’t for that poster in every. Single. Canucks. Thread, how else would I know that I will always be wrong for supporting the Canucks?

At best the Canucks are the 4th best team in their own division (in terms of actual Cup chances, not the standings on December 29). Once Pettersson and Hronek double their cap hits next summer you can kiss most of their depth goodbye. Meanwhile Chicago has Bedard, another top pick coming in 2024, many top prospects and more cap flexibility than any other team. It makes a lot of sense for players like Pettersson and Nylander to sign with the Blackhawks if they want to win.
The team with the best goal differential, most GF, 6th in GA and #4 in point % is somehow "at best" the 4th team with the highest actual cup chance?

This is obviously flame bait, and I am not sure why this kind of comment is allowed here.

Here's a fun Swedish geography fact for you. I just looked it up. Elias Pettersson was born in Sundsvall, Sweden. Guess where Matt Murley lives?

Guess which SHL team Murley played 4 seasons for? Timra. Guess which city Elias Pettersson played 5 years of youth hockey for?

He played almost 3 whole seasons in Timrå. Not 4.

And how do that connect him to William Nylander again? Again, you claimed the swedish hockey community was small and that Murls had connections within it. You still havent proven that.

Jesus christ. Imagine thinking that someone has insider scoops that doesnt makes sense because they once lived in the same city.

No kidding, guy is terrible.
How does maybe being the 4th best team in the Pacific Division translate into them having better than a 50/50 chance of making the playoffs?
Canucks are absolutely not better than the Kings. Flames is debatable, Calgary's blueline is leaps and bounds better than Vancouver's. 30 teams are better than the Sharks and Ducks that's not an impressive distinction.
He's just mad he got this wrong in another thread :naughty::lol:

You question his connections but then you also don’t know that he doesn’t have connections. Your crowning achievement with this blather is a whopping correction of 3 vs 4 years. Otherwise, it’s a lot of inconsequential hurt feelings.

But good job otherwise.

I mean if you need a new contract and don't play the Bedard card your agent should be fired.

That being said EP+Nylander taking their talents to Chicago gives me Lebron vibes.

Not sure if you’re being serious. Unless you haven’t seen the Canucks play, in which case that’s an ignorant post

I heard Bedard is unhappy in Chicago.

I am as trustworthy and as much of an insider as the person quoted.
You are more trustworthy

Murls definitely isn’t out of the loop. He also likes to just have fun and throw stuff out there too.

Who says the Blackhawks can’t become competitive relatively soon because of EP? Why can’t he be like Reggie Jackson and bring his star with him?
What everyone playing pure fantasy hockey here isn't considering is that you're talking about adding Nylander and Pettersson as UFA's (because Vancouver sure as hell ain't going to trade him, especially while they're winning). which could cost up to $12M each. There will be a 1 year window after this theoretical Pettersson signing but then Bedard is going to need a new contract which if he's as good as he seems will be in the same range. And Chicago is already paying Seth Jones $9.5M till 2030.

So congratulations, we just created the next Toronto Maple Leafs!

I mean what connection is Pettersson supposed to even have with Nylander, other than both being Swedish? At a quick hockeydb glance it doesn't look like they ever crossed paths anywhere. Really this is one that should belong in the fantasy hockey forum board rather than the trade rumours.

Haven’t mentioned Nylander once.

Yup. Makes a ton of sense.

Nylander and Pettersson going to Chicago that will have to build their team through free agency and have very little in the way of swedish members currently to play with Bedard because they want to win and it won't take 4-5 years after they join to be truly competitive

Makes perfect sense to have 3 guys making $12+ million up front and Jones at $9.5 million on the back end with no supporting cast at all.

Almost 1/2 of the estimated cap space locked up in 4 guys on a team that is looking at 2-3 years AFTER they join to be truly competitive while still building through free agency is a sure fire way to get things done.

This guy suggesting this rumour...is so out to lunch. Really. Even he admits he doesn't know how it will work due to the rfa issue but sure. Let's believe him
