I doubt he is even seriously in the Leafs' plans at this point.

Oddly enough, Rubins is the only "big guy" working out for the Leafs to any degree right now, and he wasn't drafted. WHL -> Growlers -> Marlies and earned a 2-year ELC.

At best, the Leafs probably get a prospect drafted in 2017 or 18 that has similarly fell down the ranks in their current system in exchange for Rasanen.

Edit: maybe someone like Marcus Davidsson for BUF for example

Well, there is also Brazeau, who similarly wasn't drafted.

One of those guys where its a situation of lose the guy for nothing or get something, so definitely the Leafs should act fast. He's like a poor-mans Aki Berg

What is the proper pronunciation of his name? Is his name pronounced like the name Emily?

No

Letter e is spoken, said, like in the word...lets say deck, just remove rest of the letters and say the e
but say it as you would say the word deck, now just make the e sound longer.....
now you have two e's and then finish it with meli, the e been said the same way.

You get Eemeli :)

As a leafs fan ill say this guy carries zero value. Not even a 7th. You lose a players rights after 4 years i believe, if you havent signed them so thats after this season. And there is no sign the leafs will sign him. I highly doubt they do actually. So any team can pick him up for free next year.

Project or not, nobody is going to give up a pick for a long term project they can pick up for free in 6 months. Unless he somehow plays lights out over the next few months. But then the leafs might just sign him.

Not gonna happen. Zero value.

I wonder if the fact that he sometimes evolves into a mean, hitting scoring machine from the backend in NHL 20 also makes people hopeful?

With a height of 200cm and cannon of a shot (at the time of his draft) there will always be intrigue surrounding him.

Toronto fans were very excited of his potential as he was vying for one of the dmen slots in the Wold Juniors at one point.

I really thought he should have stayed in North America. Toronto would have thrown all their resources at him to speed up his development.

For the Finnish fans following Rasanen, what’s the update on his development?

I honestly want to see him get time with the Marlies and just throw every resource at him to get better. It’s probably worth a shot and zero risk for Toronto. Even it takes him another 5-6 years (like Justin Holl) to become an NHL player.

Yeah, you can't teach size.. But Chris Dingman being a first rounder and Martin St. Louis not being drafted should show that the player should have some kind of skill at least..

His chances to develop were much better in the AHL as the team could pretty much be forced to play him. Teams in Europe want to win.

Thanks!

It's the umlaut on the vowels that throw me off.

I watch a lot Formula 1 and I remember all the great Finnish drivers like Hakkinen and Raikkonen. I was never sure if the ITV commentators really pronounced the names correctly!

I didn’t realize the Leafs still had his right after he wasn’t signed and went back to Europe. I think if he’s not signed and playing in the AHL, he’s probably not in the Leads future. I’d be happy with a 7th rounder considering I didn’t realize the Leafs still have his rights

I'm curious about what Rasanen's value is. I know this is an old thread that got bumped but still curious.

He was once sort of highly-ish touted on our board after his strong OHL seasons. Obviously, going back overseas hasn't exactly worked out for him so far.

What would you have his value at?

Honestly probably a 4th. I would like to get him in the ahl and get him some a skating specialist. We play a rough style game and u think he could fit in.

He really shot himself in the foot with his development. He should have stayed on the Marlies. The Leafs have unlimited resources and a good skating coach. Going to Europe to barely play has certainly set him back.

He's worth roughly the same as Jeremy Bracco
I think Bracco would have been worth abit more but that’s not saying much lol IMO no future with the Leafs don’t think he’d be worth more than a 5th. Was a pretty good player in Kingston but if you can’t prove your self in the Danish league there’s no NHL future

Finland has some of the best skating specialists in the world.

Why he should be in NA? Re-learn how to use the puck and get used to NA style of puck distribution.

To be honest he doesn't look like anything special.
