Yakupov carries a 2.5mil cap hit and needs to be protected in an expansion draft. Can't expect anymore out of this when the player and team want a split.

With that said, please no to Russell.

Stauffer hinting this is a clear salary move for possible D upgrade and it just so happens Yak also wanted out all this time too.

Perhaps 2 birds 1 stone scenario

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me if the Oilers Braintrust brought us a McDavid for Fowler trade next.

Love his work ethic but it's obvious from watching him he has very limited hockey sense. Headless chicken too often. Best of luck Nail.

My thoughts exactly. Great kid, easy to cheer for. Needs a second chance somewhere else.

As much as I've always wanted to see Yakupov succeed here I think he has just been a distraction the last few years and we might be better off without him.

I actually think it might be salary cap for Fowler only to flip for Trouba:laugh:

edit: oh ffs its for Russel likely haha

Great asset management again by the Oilers Brass once again. What's next? Our first and the yak pick for another underwhelming Oil King?

In a way it's kinda funny the Blues are the team that takes our failed 1st round picks. First Pääjärvi, now Yakupov. Who's next? Lol.

Anyway, at least we got a decent return for Pääjärvi, this is just ugly.

Sad to see him go, and I truly hope he takes off in St Louis. Has there been any rumours of what the condition is on the 3rd? If it become a 1st if he scores 20 goals for example, it's not a bad deal

I wonder if this means Pitlick makes the opening night roster, and I wonder who is going to replace him when he gets injured 10 games in..

All in all, it was time to move on. No more experiments, time to set a lineup and start winning. Looking forward to it.
