Literally a "meh" deal. Beck better in the AHL, Fontaine better in the NHL by the looks of it.

I know nothing about either player really, but from what I'm reading, Fontaine could work as a depth forward on the Oilers for injuries or whatnot, while Beck doesn't seem to have the chops for the NHL.

Fontaine did have 9 goals, 31 points just 2 seasons ago. Beck isn't an NHLer so I don't mind this at all, adds some veteran depth to the bottom 6.
Sucks for Bakersfield though just as they were making a playoff push.

Size is no longer a problem here it's skill that Chia is trying to add.

I always liked Fontaine with the Wild, happy with this trade, it's depth at the very least.

They probably think Beck is a no-go based on his try-outs with the big boys. Cannot blame them really.

Fontaine is another crap-shot but he actually has produced before in the NHL so why not see if he can find his game again.

My theory is that Beck has played 1 NHL playoff series, while Fontaine has played 3 or 4. Maybe that's all Chiarelli is looking for in a "just-in-case" trade.
