That’s nice and all coming from Marchand and Cassidy, but that mentality is something I think has historically hurt this team

This over confidence that they will just be able to turn it on. They’ve been able to a few times, and I think it’s given them false confidence that has burned them at times. Look no further than game 7 last year.

they came out flying against binnington and when things didn’t go their way, the mental game started to crumble. Gripping sticks too tight and skating around like someone just dumped scorpions into their jocks.

the bruins need to just get out there and play their best, keep it simple and strong, attack the net. Talk is cheap

The Hurricanes have been excellent at holding onto leads this season. They had a combined .957 winning percentage when leading after either the first or second periods. For comparison, the President's Trophy winners had a combined .776 winning percentage in the same situations.

Hopefully the Bruins can get ahead and then stay even at worst. The Hurricanes did not have a good record in 1-goal games this season (2-6.)

Interesting thing in looking at goals by period, Bruins were +23 in the 1st, +17 in the 2nd, and +19 in the 3rd. They scored more goals in each successive period (68, 71, 82), but also gave up more in each (45, 54, 63), so you kind of assume the game opens up a bit. On the other side, Hurricanes were -9 in the 1st, +11 in the 2nd, and then +21 in the 3rd. They scored more goals in each successive period (61, 72, 78), but gave up fewer in each as well (70, 61, 57). Their offense ramps up, while the defense turns into shutdown mode. Shows how important getting an early lead is.

It's not an ideal situation for a Bruins team that's not quite up to speed yet. They can't afford to just play 'keep it close' 1st periods.

The Bruins have now won 7 in a row against the Hurricanes and are 11-1-0 against them in their last 12 games.

As a reminder, with there being a good chance Halak sees action in this series, here's his stats against the Hurricanes since the Bruins began their 11-1-0 streak:
4-2-0
2.17 GAA
.937 Sv%
2 Shutouts

Bruins looked really good in game 1, but the Canes can be a lot better than they were today. The long break probably didn't help. I wouldn't get too cocky yet.

Bruins now 12-2-0 in their last 14 games against the Hurricanes.

During that time:
Jaroslav Halak -- 5-2-0; 2.00 GAA; .940 Sv%; 2 Shutouts

if you remove his brain cramp from today...
5-2-0; 1.86 GAA; .940 Sv%; 3 Shutouts

Pretty, pretty good.
