Milwaukee placed nobody on this year's All-Star team, unless you count Rocco Grimaldi on the second team for Chicago.

That should serve as some playoff motivation against the winner of the Texas - Moose play-in round, since they have 2 and 1 respectively.

The Admirals (46-22-1-1) close out the home regular season against third place Rockford (38-25-5-2), who is fighting for second place and home ice versus Grand Rapids. The IceHogs have Pitlick and Healey, as former Admirals.

The Ads starters are Askarov, Ufko, Del Gaizo, Egor, Parssinen and Gicewicz.

Egor (27) scores 5 minutes in, with assists to Gicewicz and McKeown. Roland got a plaque before the puck drop for his 500th pro game, and 126th with Milwaukee.

62 just punched an Admiral in the back of the head, who was face down on the ice. After 1 minute, Schaefer for Unsportsmanlike. Asky with a glove save on a shot from 5 feet. Amazing!

Rockford going full Slap Shot. Boarding, headlock, throwing an Admiral to the ice. Ads have a 2 minute PP. High Sticking and Mutter goes after the guy. Punches him a bunch and then face slams him to the ice. Two extra for Mutter and no High Sticking call. I thought it was going to be a line brawl.

Kemell with the Wayne Gretzky office pass to Svechkov to make it 2-0 with 1:18 remaining. SOG 15-7 Ads.

Period 2 starts with Rockford icing, followed by Gicewicz for GI. Parsnip with the reverse hit on the PK! Teply with a PP tap in to make it 2-1 Ads, at 2:13 into the period. Del Gaizo for High Sticking 30 seconds later. Killed it.

When the Ads are at ES, they look like they are on the PP. They are passing well tonight.
Gross (5) with assists to Wilsby and Svechkov at 7:58, to make it 3-1.

13 jumped Mutter behind the Rockford goal and after the whistle. He is getting 2 minutes Slashing, 2 for Roughing, plus a 10 minute Misconduct. He heads for the lockerroom with less than 10 minutes left in the period. Rockford killed the penalty, Ads had only 3 SOG.

Asky was turned in the crease by Teply. The ref called it a good goal. After review, it is a good. OMG, dragging the goalie around in the crease, then throwing the puck into the net. How is that not GI?????????? Officially, it is 3-2 Ads. Truly, it is 3-1, plus 1 for refs Jordan Watt (#83) and Jordan Samuels-Thomas (#42). WE HAVE BEEN DOUBLE CROSSED BY THE DOUBLE JORDANS!!!

The Ads pushing the IceHogs around after the whistle for a change! Roos checks Schaefer after the whistle. Both get 2 for Roughing. The penalties will carry over for 9 seconds into period 3. SOG 13-10 Ads.

Period 3 begins with Del Gaizo getting his feet taken out. Too bad that the puck was 60 feet away! No call. At 2:50, Schaefer (7) whirls around to score, assists to Del Gaizo and Svechkov. Ads just hit the crossbar, 2 feet from the left post, a minute after their goal. Rockford scored after the puck hit the safety net near me. That one should not have counted either. It is 4-3 or 4-1 depending on your point of view.

Kemell looks off tonight. He is missing shots and looks handcuffed by passes.
Del Gaizo was grabbed from behind and pulled down in front of ref #42. No call.

Wall scores on a deflection to make it 5-3 with 7:10 remaining. Gross took a slapper from the point to get that started. Ads called for slashing. IceHogs pulled their goalie with over 4 minutes remaining. Ads missed the net by a foot.

9500 fans in attendance!!! A sell out.

Last minute. SOG are 36-22.
10 seconds left. Face off and Egor scores ENG with assists to Parsnip and Gacewicz to make it 6-3!

Asky took a victory lap and blew kisses to the crowd after the game. Svechkov was the #1 Star of the Game.

The Admirals are leading Grand Rapids 1-0 on a PPG by Campbell (3) with assists to Schaefer (14) and Hanzel (2) half way through period 2.

Troy Grosenick has 20 saves after 2 periods. The Dcorps is Livingstone, Prokop, Ufko, Hanzel, Matier and Luce! The Admirals are playing the youngsters. Up front, Nolan Burke occupies a Center slot.

Rockford beat Chicago 3-2, so they are currently in second place as long as Grand Rapids loses in regulation.

The Griffins tied with a PPG at 7:44 of period 3. It goes to OT. GR scores on their 38th shot at 2:10 of OT.

Today's 18 skaters averaged less than 65 AHL games per man. Troy Grosenick has over 300 AHL games.

Both teams finished 4-4 on the season.
The Admirals totalled 97 points in their 72 games to be Central Division Champs. That is a .674winning percentage. The Admirals are selling gray T-shirts and sweatshirts that say that. I saw some at yesterday's game.

The Admirals got off to a quick start at Texas. Tomasino scored unassisted at 6:17. Svechkov scored at 10:57 with assists to Kemell and Wilsby. The Stars scored a minute later to make it 2-1 Admirals. The SOG were 7-5 Ads.

Period 2 started with Texas scoring less than 3 minutes into period to tie the game. They took the lead 6 minutes later. Cal O'Reilly scored with 1:45 remaining to tie the game at 3-3. The SOG were 7-6 Ads.

Period 3 was all Texas as they scored 3 goals on 19 shots. The last one was an ENG with 38 seconds remaining. The Ads had 4 SOG, the first one coming after the Stars had ten.

McKenzie. Patterson and Bourque combined for 4 goals and 5 assists. It was Poirier's first win over Milwaukee this season in 4 starts. Askarov allowed 5 goals on 29 shots. Both teams were 0 of 2 on the PP.

Game 2 is Saturday night in Texas.

Not very encouraging start for Askarov. Dude got picked apart.
We have kindof destroyed their defensive core:

Del Gaizo, Stastney, Gravel, Livingstone, McKeown, Matier, Wilsby in March

Del Gaizo, McKeown, Livingstone, Ufko, Hanzel, Gross, Wilsby now

Alot less AHL experience and alot more offensive based.

1st goal woof
2nd goal deflection a couple feet out
3rd goal the entire teams controllers become disconnected leaving askarov to fend for himself
4th goal is copy/paste of the 1st
5th goal defensive lapses and good passes semi odd man rush
6th goal MT net

He made several good/great saves along the way. Not his best game by any means

Saros was further along at this level
Saros had also played alot more games. Gotta remember that Askarov played next to nothing the year after he was drafted.

For instance when people were comparing him to Carey Price at the same number of professional years Price had played something like 160 more games than Askarov had by that same point.

I trust all of the "now" group, except Hanzel. I haven't seen enough of him to form an opinion one way or the other. Livingstone and Ufko are okay. The other 4 are AHL vets.

I don't know if that's a play I want my goalie making in a 1-0, 5 game series, and a 1-0 game. Can't just be handing out power plays for free in the playoffs. If he was actually performing well so far or the Ads were winning, I might take less of an issue, but self-inflicted wounds tend to sting more in the playoffs, as I'm sure we are all aware after the big club's playoff series.

I missed the game since I was at the Milwaukee Symphony Pops Orchestra's May the Fourth Be With You concert. We got to meet the conductor after the concert.

My daughter, who probably watched the game, says "play Troy in goal".

Troy, like Obi-Wan, is our ONLY hope. That part is from me. Askarov has a consistency issue. He is a Wallenda on the high wire.

Players will be less likely to grab Askarov's stick after he clotheslined that guy. I am surprised that the Stars player did not get a penalty for what he did. I hope that Karl Taylor brought that to the refs attention about how his stick ended up behind the goal.

My understanding of the rules is that if the puck is not in the crease, the other team is not allowed to be in the crease!

Why does she say pull Askarov?

That's why I'm hesitant when it comes to trading Saros. Yeah, Askarov is dominant in the regular season, but can he do it in the post-season? I want to see him dominate the playoffs. Last season in the Finals he was replaced as the starter after 2 games (I realize the irony of saying be dominant in the playoffs when he took them to the finals).

She doesn't feel that he is up to the task at the moment. Maybe the 10 days off hurt his level of play? Troy is less spectacular, but more steady.

BTW, the Admirals were eliminated 4-2 in the Conference Finals, by Cochella Valley last season, not the Calder Cup Finals.

I do feel like the AHL playoff system kind of screws the higher seeded teams. First round bye gives you such a long time off and then you have to go on the road for two games to start the series. Really easy to fall into a hole where you have to win three straight to get out of it with no room for error since its a five game series.

The goaltending isn't a problem regardless of who is in net. The fact that the Admirals controlled puck possession the entire game, and the only goal that they scored was on a rush the other way.

For all of the love that Afanaseyev gets, he needs to do something. He's been invisible since coming back from injury, scoring points in only 3 of 11 games (playoffs included).
