Hey, you gotta have something to cheer for as a New Jersey fan
Yeah....while we're at it, let's suspend Taylor Hall and Nico Hischier for the rest of the season as well.
9 games....my ass.
He'll get 1(maybe 2). TOPS.
Suspension worthiness factors in priors. It's not a philosophical debate, it's how the league has always worked. This conversation began with act vs act re: suspension worthy. Simply put, yes in that respect.
This has nothing to do with Taylor Hall and Nico Hischier.
This deserves a good suspension. It’s very dangerous and he no regard for player safety. He probably won’t get much but that doesn’t make it right.
My point was that your 9 games idea is absolutely ridiculous.
1.) First time offender
2.) No history of Being like Gudas (or GudASS, imo)
All that equals 1 game(after thinking about it) suspension. TOPS.
ONE game.
Should be 3-4 games, but since he wasn't booted tonight, add another one.
The incident should be what the suspension is for. Who gives a **** if it’s the first time? It should be the last time. You shouldn’t get a discount on a garbage play because you haven’t been suspended before.
The history should come into it after you’ve decided the punishment then add onto it.
I think it’s ridiculous that a player thinks this is ok. It wasn’t a high speed can’t change incident. He targeted him all the way and didn’t let up.
You don’t actually believe that, do you? That guys would potentially jeopardize their career and long term health in an ‘attempt to get them suspended’ .... and to get a player suspended for his next game(s) against someone else? The NHL rules do.
What you're referring to is a Zero-Tolerance policy that would NEVER fly with the Players Association(or whatever union they have).
Otherwise, we'd have players getting suspended left and right just for finishing checks and their opponents PURPOSELY turning toward the wall in an attempt to get them suspended.
Bad hit.
I think the fair suspension is 2-3 games.
I don't really disagree with you. I don't think this was THAT bad...but definitely an illegal hit, and the player deserves to have message sent in the form of a suspension. If he had any history OR the Lightning Player was bleeding and/or was prone on the ice, then 2-3 games would be fair.
But he has no history and the player was fine. 1 Game suspension(at worst).

I was going to say 1-2 games, then I remembered the 3 game suspension to Forsberg a couple weeks ago. In my opinion this Wood hit is worse than the Forsberg one (which I don't think deserved a penalty at all). I suppose the point here is that the NHL is inconsistent with their suspensions (big surprise).
In a vaccum I say this should be zero or 1 game for Wood. Based on what they've suspended this season, 2-3.
