Not for nothing but to continue the discussion from the GDT, if your PP is supposedly better suited for your second best offensive defenseman than for one of the best players in the league, chances are you don’t have the right system.

How in the world is this valid? Does stylistic fit not have any importance?

I think I'd likely prefer Dougie over Damon considering all factors but from a fit perspective, Damon is better IMO. Dougie takes way too many low percentage point shots when it is often better to cycle the puck.

I think when Dougie gets that visor off he should go back on to PP1. Today his passing seemed crisp, in previous games he hasn't been sharp at all. I think Severson takes just as many garbage, low-percentage shots as Hamilton, fwiw.

Just get a goalie and a competent coaching staff and we Gucci.

holy shit Bratt has gone super saiyon, just a threat every time he has the puck with a little space

Rightfully Jack is getting praised for this game but Mercer was also ridiculous. So many nifty plays keeping things alive.

I thought it was way more intuitive to put Mercer with Nico-Bratt but over the long haul, it's easy to see how a Mercer-Hughes combination is hard to contain. North-south to east-west in an instant.

Sev's shoot's a lot, but Hamilton still shoots way more.

I thought this may have been more of a thing since Hamilton came to NJ, but nope, on the PP he actually shot the puck more in past seasons.

This is a career high for him 5v5 though in terms of shot rate.

It helps when two of their very best - O'Reilly and Binnington have been pretty crappy all year.

I mean Husso's literally been better this year than Binnington's ever been. He's having an incredible year. A .930 and the 3rd highest GSAx/60 at .723. Binnington's best year was 18-19 where he had a .927 and was 10th in GSAx/60 at 0.213. We got to light up Binnington in the first game (we also played Gilles that game) but we played Husso today and he was very good.

The RoR excuse doesn't work either when the other guys on the team are as good as they are and have stepped up like they have. They have Kyrou having a career year over a PPG. They added an incredible two way winger who is nearly a PPG in Buch. Tarasenko got healthy and is back to being Tarasenko. He's also nearly PPG. Thomas is having a career year and is on a 73 pt pace. Ivan f***ing Barbashev came out of nowhere and is having a career year on pace for 63 pts. Schenn and Perron are having really good years. They added a quality piece in Saad.

Wait how did we beat the big bad physical Blues with our soft meek little team twice in less than 4 weeks?
Come on. This is the NHL. The Coyotes just won the Avalance two times in a row.

The thing is consistency. When we play our best game, we can beat many teams, especially if they have a bad or mediocre day. But I wouldn't declare how great we are at the moment. There are reasons why the Blues are a playoff team and the Devils aren't. If the Devils want to play in the playoffs, they should replace Johnsson, Tatar and maybe even Boqvist with players like Nichushkin, Copp, Marchment or Niederreiter. (Yeah, I know we don't have cap space for all of them.)

The Devils have a great core, but they need to build their forward group in a more balanced way.

Devils skated them into the ground. This is the blueprint

what is njs record with jack, Nico, Bratt, and Dougie all in the lineup?
