Assuming a Meier contract extension eventually gets done the main goal of the offseason should be building the bottom six.

- McLeod, Bastian, Sharangovich and Boqvist are RFAs
- Haula and Tatar are UFAs
- Quite a few near ready NHL prospects in Holtz, Clarke, Foote, Thompson and Bardakov's KHL contract will end in April.
- Plus whoever they look to add in UFA or the trade market.

Will be vey interesting to see how Fitzgerald goes about dealing with a lot of moving parts and what the end result will be.

Just a dream. but if islanders will not figure it out next season and Sorokin will say no to extand. And Lou will be ready to trade him. I know he will ask a lot, not that much we ready to give. And we will not sign him because we need cap space for all of our assets. But we could make a damage for sure. Just a dream where everything is perfect.

Uh no according to this board he will be too old

I have a feeling Mcleod is going to cost a little more than we thought. Would it be crazy to think he gets 2m?
it feels weird having much less capspace nowadays. Pop that Mercer payday in and we're basically left with the corey money for 2025, then Hughes/Nemec coming up the following year. That's not even mentioning what we do in goal.
Its tight folks, guess we gotta get used to it.

I'm basically operating under the assumption Haula's brought back and all the forward RFAs are resigned besides maybe Yegor. I'd be looking to move Yegor. I think the goal should be one top 6er and one 3rd liner. There's still a gaping hole in that top 6. We can get away with having a lesser player there because we have 4 stars and another potential budding star but I still want another guy. If Calgary starts to ship pieces out then I'm all over trying to get Toffoli. For the 3rd line I'd be looking at guys like Engvall, Fast, Suter, Brown

Let's say Meier gets signed to a 8 X 8.5 contact(fair)...Who is next?

Mercer? Mcleod?

Fitz... the way he's going..very...impressed. TBD with Timo, but in Fitz we trust.

Mercer. I don't know if he goes for it but I'd be trying to get him for like 6ish mil long term

Fitz aint a fool...

He's looking down the road. Jack Hughes is no fool either. Luke...watch out...(finically)

Mercer....let's see....etc...Bratt well done...Timo...you're up.

Fitz is structuring these contracts I assume with all the bonuses etc for a reason...he knows what he's doing.

I assume Fitz goes for it. I was talking about Mercer maybe not going for it. Maybe he'd want a shorter deal or not even discuss an extension a year out and wants to wait until next summer.

yeah wasnt referring to you...

Put yourself in Fitz's shoes....the core WITH Timo done(it WILL get done)...surrround the core...we're good.

A lot of people want Colton from Tampa is it? Fitz is doing well...maybe it happens...

Mercer is the one upcoming...which is crazy already.....what is he?

Jack Hughes at 8 million will prove huge going forward along with the others...

Fitz will definitely have options with how he wants to build the rest of the forward group. My assumption would be McLeod, Bastian and Haula will be brought back, after that I'd imagine there will be a lot of internal discussions in regards to the last couple of spots.

I don't expect them to try and acquire a Toffoli type, I think Fitz will target undervalued/underutilized players rather than more established players. Basically the forward version of the Siegenthaler trade.

I really don't have an interest in Colton unless he's taking a discount. He's a fine player but nothing special and with the report he wants 4 then him taking a discount would just end up being like a fair market deal.

I don't see how they don't bring back Boqvist too. I don't think they should really be leaving open spots for Holtz, Clarke, Foote either. Fill out the lineup. If they make it then great bump down other guys but don't just leave them for internal options.

I also think we should be aiming higher than a Siegs. Like yeah that's turned out great but they weren't acquiring him thinking he was going to be this top pair guy. We can do that for a 3rd line guy but I do want another top 6 guy.

It's certainly one of the options to bring back Boqvist but I just don't think it's as likely as McLeod, Bastian and Haula. If you go off the assumption that McLeod, Bastian and Haula will be brought back than that leaves you with only 3 open spots on the roster and plenty of options internally and externally. If they think there's 3 better options out there to make the team than I could see him not being brought back simply due to a number's game.

Oh, there’s a Trade Board thread on Timo’s arbitration news?

You fogot Wood as an UFA.
I think Tatar and Wood are both gone.
Wood to be replaced internally by Lazar or Foote.
Huala is re-signed for $3m, two year contract.
Sharangovich i'm fine to qualify him but he doesn't get a raise.
Bastian and Boqvist shouldn't get more than $1m-$1.5m per season.
Clarke and Thompson to get a look at training camp but I dont think they make the team.
I can only see NJ making a UFA signing or trade for a 3RD that can penalty kill on a short term contract. To allow Nemec one more year of AHL development.

I'm curious to see how Fitz replaces Tatar.
It probably should be Alex Holtz but if Lindy doesn't trust him then he probably needs to dip into free agency or consider a trade for a veteran forward.

For me either they play Holtz or he plays the entire season in AHL. It was no good to have him as a healthy scratch for so long.

$2m for McLeod is fine. I wouldn't give him more than that though.

oh that's right...

Pete, I don't think I saw you in the Bratt-signing thread.

How are you feeling about his deal? :)
