They'd just send Frazee down, they don't need to send Matteau down for that. They might for Zubrus but I doubt he's ready yet.

I think they just came to the realization he hasn't played for a while and they want him to get some big game experience in the QMJHL playoffs and prevent him from accruing a year towards UFA.

I do think Janssen's coming up for the Rangers lol

good call on the playoffs! i remember when henrique kicked ass not long ago in the O playoffs. 19 GP -- 20 G -5 A - 25 Pts :yo:

Man I hope it's no Janssen. We have enough trouble scoring goals without burning a roster spot on a guy who's a million to one shot at scoring a goal. I'd rather take my chances with an actual hockey player since the rangers aren't exactly brimming with goons ATM.

Maybe their afraid Marty will "tweak" it again and want a backup incase? I have no idea at this point.

Money is on Josefson, Janssen, or Tallinder.

I almost forgot about Tallinder, good call...that might be it, unless he's in a wheelchair.

Not that Tallinder would play neccesarily but you do have to send a forward down to have all 8 D on the roster when healthy.

Playing in the NHL the same year he was drafted and looking inconsistent but not lost? I chalk that up as a win. His future is bright. The fact we needed him in the first place is where the criticism belongs.

I don't think we needed him per se. He impressed Lou and the staff in camp, thus earning his way onto the team. Did you attend the rookie training camp/practices?

His future is bright. I hate drawing comparables, but I see him becoming a Hornton like player. Big player with a whistler of a shot.

not for nothing, but i dont really anticipate the rangers games being all that chippy in all honesty. no more rupp, scott, dubinsky, etc. haley is in their lineup but i dont think he will do anything crazy and outside that there really isnt many pot stirrers per se. but as far as matteau goes, i dont see him coming up and experiencing the NHL for a couple months is a bad thing in any way. everyone needs to remember, he was in junior for what was equivalent to half of an NHL season, plus he will go back for the playoffs. hes not looking like he is gonna be due for a big payday when his ELC expires anyways, and im pretty sure he didnt lose a year towards UFA. then let him go to the AHL after his Q playoffs are done.

Well we all thought Pete would keep Janssen/Barch around for the last Ranger game and neither dressed with Cam quickly being sent down after the Tampa game. Maybe he's taking the opposite tact this year, don't rile them up.

To be eligible for the QMJHL playoffs, Matteau had to be back on junior club's roster at a certain time and the Devils decided to make move

Lamoriello: "For his development it's best that he go back." Matteau could return to the Devils or play in Albany after junior team is done

Could you imagine if Matteau played in the junior playoffs, then the AHL playoffs if Albany somehow makes it? I wonder how many people have done that in the same year.

Good stuff. Better him play top minutes down there instead of 5 mins or scratched up here.

I bet he learned a **** ton, apply it, be better and get even better.

I'm happy he got a goal before sent down.

If Janssen is called up obviously Pete didn't learn from the last game. We got killed by the Rangers the last time he pulled that **** in the last game against them of the regular season. That was one of the strongest games I've seen them play against us in years and that backfired in his face. The sad part was Lundqvist looked like he couldn't stop a beach ball that game, and they still beat up on us. Janssen was a real help against the Lightning too. The fact Pete insists John Madden lite play on the 1st line over Patty and Rico almost ensures we have 0 real lines too.

Please god anybody but Janssen.:help:

The right call. His spot on the team can be substituted, he's best served playing junior right now. I don't think it was a bad decision per se to have him up and get some time in the big league, but I personally don't think the experiment needed to last as long as it did. He wasn't playing every night at a time when he should have been. Not that he's been irrevocably stunted, but...

He impressed over what else was available, which is why we're hurting and scraping to put together 4 decent lines now. That was my point. Plus, making the team out of camp is an entirely different issue from staying past the 5 game mark and staying to burn a year of eligibility, and free agency. He pushed past one and almost the other because we didn't have better options, and had injuries, not because he was on fire and scoring. He will be better the next time he comes around.

"....until we find a good deal and trade him in a package" :sarcasm:

Seriously, though....I think MyToe has a future here as a Devil. Maybe not as a Top 6 but definitely can be a very solid 3rd-line player in the future.

He made a good accounting of himself playing with the big boys while being only 18 years of age.

But now it's time for him to be developed....PROPERLY. So I hope he remains in the QMJHL for the rest of this season.

There was no reason to keep him this long if he was just going to be used as a 4th liner/healthy scratch.

I feel like we really botched this one.

A month and a half too late.

He should have been retuned after the first few games to get tons of ice time and confidence.

Now, it was not a total waste and he showed he can compete at the highest level as a 19-yr old.

I look forward to seeing his development and progress when he comes back to NJ.

Matteau hasn't really shown anything special the big leagues. Maybe a borderline NHL'er if he plays with a nastier attitude.
