About Kinkaid and the head-shaking, I don't think it's that big a deal. It's not the most appropriate way to deal with Helgeson's gaffe, but most goaltenders are known for being a bit temperamental and having their quirks. As New Jersey Devils fans, we were just blessed by the fact that both Marty and Cory are cool, collected goalies, so if they get angry at teammates for making mistakes that lead to goals, they don't really show it, but a fair number of goaltenders in the NHL do get visibly miffed at teammates for things like that. Maybe Kinky will pick up a calmer approach to those errors from watching how Cory deals with those situations, but if not I'm sure his teammates know the hockey truism that goaltenders are weirdos.
As for Helgeson, I felt bad for him, because you can tell he meant well going down to block and it ended so horribly for him. You could see how terrible he felt when he buried his head in his hands. Hopefully some other teammates and coaches were supportive of him. I'm sure that moment is seared in his mind and he will be learning from that mistake. Even though this was hardly a high-stake game for the team, it reflects well on his character that he cared enough about the outcome to be visibly upset by his error.
