I liked Hraberenka. Would love to see him muscle onto the roster somehow.

Pretty good possibility. I could see Gelinas shipped out more and more. I don't think he's going to fit on the Devils, he may become a productive player elsewhere but not with the Devils.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to ship out Gelinas+pick for a forward then add Oduya.

Oduya-Severson

It most certainly is hyperbole.

Rank these defesnemen for me for this season only.

Gelinas, Harrold, Fraser, Salvador

You gonna tell me Fraser was the worst of this group this season? There has been no worse than Gelinas. Period. Bar None. While he has been much better since being shifted to the right side and I know we all love that promise of "potential", We haven't had a worse defenseman than Gelinas play on this team in a few years.

LOL what? None of these players are worse than Fraser.

Maybe the version of Salvador we saw earlier this season, but he was once good and was just ancient and not good anymore.

I don't see us pinned in our end for a minute at a time with Gelinas out there, like we do with Fraser out there 75% of the time.

Sorry but Fraser is swamp ass.

Fraser is clearly fearless and his heart is in the right place on the ice in defending teammates.

But I can't think of a worse defenseman in the league.
We just can't have him back on the roster again after Saturday.

Not one of these guys or the players mentioned since would I pass on in favor of Fraser. None. Yes Fraser has been the worst of that bunch. Absolutely.

I don't like Fraser either, but like many of our third pairing/fourth line/depth players he would be okay in limited doses. It's when he's out there every night, sometimes playing 19+ minutes that he gets exposed for what he is, a depth defenseman.

This is actually the way I feel about Harrold. I have always preferred Harrold over Fraser, I even gloated about how great it was to have Harrold instead of Fraser after we got rid of Fraser. Then Fraser comes back a couple years later and Harrold had to sit for him.

Harrold isn't very good, but I don't think he's any worse than most teams 7th defenseman. It was just annoying that DeBoer overused him at times or to scratch Larsson or Gelinas.

I don't think Fraser is better than any teams 7th defenseman. That's why he essentially washed out of the league before buddy Lou called up in November.

About Kinkaid and the head-shaking, I don't think it's that big a deal. It's not the most appropriate way to deal with Helgeson's gaffe, but most goaltenders are known for being a bit temperamental and having their quirks. As New Jersey Devils fans, we were just blessed by the fact that both Marty and Cory are cool, collected goalies, so if they get angry at teammates for making mistakes that lead to goals, they don't really show it, but a fair number of goaltenders in the NHL do get visibly miffed at teammates for things like that. Maybe Kinky will pick up a calmer approach to those errors from watching how Cory deals with those situations, but if not I'm sure his teammates know the hockey truism that goaltenders are weirdos.

As for Helgeson, I felt bad for him, because you can tell he meant well going down to block and it ended so horribly for him. You could see how terrible he felt when he buried his head in his hands. Hopefully some other teammates and coaches were supportive of him. I'm sure that moment is seared in his mind and he will be learning from that mistake. Even though this was hardly a high-stake game for the team, it reflects well on his character that he cared enough about the outcome to be visibly upset by his error.

I'm wondering if Kinky was simply shaking his head at just another bad break and a loss in a lost season?

We don't really know for sure why he was shaking his head and whether that was directed at Severson or not.

I prefer not to point fingers and say "HOW DARE YOU!" to Kinky when the whole season is just one big pile of suck. :dunno:

I remember Cory doing something similar last year. The game ended in almost the same exact way too.

We were winning 1-0 against Colorado and Roy did one of his famous pulls when he saw Harrold and CBGB out there with almost 2 minutes left and Colorado tied it.

Then we took a late penalty in regulation that carried over into OT and lost on a PP goal.

Cory exploded off the ice and I think he might have even broke his stick.

I don't blame Kinkaid for reacting that way. It would be one of thing if the only bad break to go against him was that puck off Helgeson in OT. The team gave up THREE power play goals against last night though. I don't think he would have been as frustrated if that were the ONLY power play goal they gave up last night.

The fact that the Foligno PK turned the clock back to November was a complete embarrassment.

You're thinking of the Ottawa near-end of season shootout...that's when Cory broke his stick at the end of the game. It was a similar circumstance cause it was his last game of the year.

Wasn't that one of our better shootouts of the year? Cory dragged it like 6 rounds?

I would be pissed to coming so close to ending that stupid shootout devil streak.

It was actually both lol, looking back through game threads Cory went nuts at the end of the Colorado game and after the Ottawa shootout last year.

I do remember that but there was another one against Colorado too.

He might not have broke his stick in this game but he did storm off the ice after the OT power play winner. The end of the Ottawa game was the only other time I've ever seen him that pissed.

This was the Colorado game, it was during that string of consecutive games where we gave up the tying goal with the other teams goalie pulled right before the olympic break.

Yeah, as I said, I don't think it's that big a deal if Kinky was shaking his head at Hegelson, but you're right that it could not have been directed at Kinky--just sort of a generalized response to the bad break at the end of a long, losing season.
