Likely temporary to get them in the lineup for some Marlies games. They will either be back or some new Marlies bodies will be up to play against Colorado on Tuesday, in replacement for Kulemin, Clarkson and perhaps Ashton if he is still injured by then.

They were also sent down for cap reasons folks. Why would the Leafs keep them at the NHL level and pay more salary when both are on 2 ways? They'll be sent down between games to save salary, and cap space.

This must have been done to get those two some time with the Marlies, because it does NOT save cap space. When you are at the cap and receive LTIR relief it is limited to exactly what you need. You can not "bank" it. Link is as follows...
