Honestly hope he can figure things out with a fresh start. There's still a good hockey player there, only question is if it's in the NHL or in europe.
Had much higher hopes for him at the draft, but at no point since being drafted did he ever strike me as having any elite tools or elite upside. Big scouting mistake from Holland & Wright.

If I'm him I'm looking for a good team with good center depth and maybe not enough cap room to afford a strong group of supporting wingers. He needs a place where he can produce offense play a game that caters to his ststrengths
This sounds like Tampa

I love it when people blame their GM's for poor scouting when they took a consensus player. Everyone thought he did have elite skills, because he did for his age. He looked like a sniper in the WJC's. Looking back and trying to blame Holland and Wright is pretty comical.

So any rumors on next route?

I mean agreeing to forfeit, what was he owed? Like $4 million something is a wild decision

If my math is right he scores less than 7 ES goals per 82 games, which is brutal for like a 4th line PK specialist, which he isn't. He should go to Europe for a year or two.

Assuming they figured Detroit would do the 1/3 buyout of his contract next season, it might be closer to 2.7 million which is still a decent chunk of change. If Zadina signs a cheap 1 year deal and does well, perhaps he would make up most of that money on his next contract which would make sense if he wants to bet on himself.

I still think signing with a non-playoff team with potential PP time would make more sense for him than latching on with a contender and fighting for ice time if his goal is to put up numbers. Ie, Alexander Barabanov on San Jose versus his time in Toronto.

I thought his motivation in the contract termination was that he didn't want to play in the AHL. Would be odd to give up 1.8 million only to sign for much less and get sent down.

Given what his contract is likely to be, Zadina probably won't clear waivers anyway if a team tries to put him in the AHL. That was probably another part of why he wanted out of that deal.

Zadina at $900k for a year has a good chance of bouncing around on waivers if he doesn't work out with whatever team signs him before the season starts.

I think he can wish in one hand and shit in the other...

I also suggested he go back to Europe for a year. I just don't see who is going to sign him to an NHL deal at the moment given what other FAs are available.

Who is taking Zadina over Tatar, Tarasenko, Kane, Sundqvist, Suter, Heinen, Malgin, Motte...and I could go on?

Zadina's value is like $900k on a 1 year deal that teams can easily make disappear if he doesn't work out. Not to mention still only being 23YO. There will be plenty of teams that gamble on him figuring it out with their club before he has to worry about going back home.

I want him on the oil but he will not sniff the top 6. He'd be a 3rd liner at best. Won't sniff the PP. So bad choice for him.

Chicago with hall, Bedard and such would be a very good place for him. Him and Mrazek can talk about how much they loved playing in Detroit.

Canes to replace JP and put him with Necas? Not sure if he could sniff their top 6 either.

Arizona for sure and hopefully Jenik cracks the roster finally.

Boston would be a good cheap fit for him... But hopefully it doesn't send Lauko to AHL. He'd have lots of Czechs and pasta could be a great mentor for him.

But I could also see him at the Spengler Cup at xmas.

Love that he bet on himself. I assume he is dryland training his ass off and his agent had a plan well before this happened.

Baffles the shit out of me because Detroit seems like a decent landing spot for him.
