To add regarding Lindstrom, he played more than fine in preseason with Edvinsson. It was awful when he was paired with Hagg or Oesterle. He definitely needs someone to carry the weight for him.
Why acquire him if it came with an urgency to divest him for nothing?
Pittsburgh had to give a 2nd round pick for the habs to take Petry, you thought he had value? Why acquire him if it came with an urgency to divest him for nothing?
Needed to move forwards, him playing in mtl was never on the table for anyoneWhy acquire him if it came with an urgency to divest him for nothing?
Fan don't need him means nothing vs GMThought Detroit didn't need him?
Not having the f***ing toxic rot that is Mike Hoffman on the roster. Hughes basically acquired a few assets at the caphit of what would've been Hoffman's buyout caphit.
I really don't care about Lindstrom, but it does give options to the Habs, if they'd rather have Barron play 22 minutes a night in the AHL than 18 or so in the NHL. If it somehow works really, really well for Lindstrom and he plays like a legit NHL'er, or even a legit 2nd pairing, well... Assets. I have zero hope for this, but stranger things happened. If Lindstrom comes as advertised (I'm going with the Ouellet comparable above), well, it's a perfect player for a rebuilding team, since they don't have a promote a guy too early (or can give Barron bigger duties).
For the record I don't think Barron will be much more than a #4-5 with decent size who can move the puck adquately, but is otherwise pretty vanilla. In other words, I don't think he has much room to grow (other than gaining experience).
Pittsburgh had to give a 2nd round pick for the habs to take Petry, you thought he had value?
The whole point of the trade was to dump Hoffman to make a spot available on the habs roster, and they got a 2nd, a 4th and a depth dman who can play if there’s injuries. Plus whatever they can get by trading DeSmith or one of the other goalies they have.
A lot of "slow decision making" can be mitigated by development. He's not quick enough for the rest of his game either in terms of footspeed or thought. Its not that he makes bed decisions, he just doesn't quite process the game quickly enough for some one without any top tier tools to compensate. He's perfectly ok as a number 6 D on a team without playoff aspirations, but that's the ceiling of what he's demonstrated so far. One of those guys you can see why they drafted, but he just hasn't developed enough. Seems a good kid, and is at least stable in his playstyle, but probably destined to return to Sweden or bounce around as a 6/7 for teams short of numbers on the right hand side.
Settle down, bud.Who still gives a damn about old ass Jeff Petry
Hoffman is a cyber bully. Some merit to dumping him at all costs I guess. But it’s sort of frying pan/fryer
You sure?Hoffman is a cyber bully. Some merit to dumping him at all costs I guess. But it’s sort of frying pan/fryer
Its also part of a long term strategy:Hughes said he took less value on Petry to make a quick move.
No. His wife is or was.Hoffman is a cyber bully. Some merit to dumping him at all costs I guess. But it’s sort of frying pan/fryer
They traded Toffoli for Mesar, Heineman and another pick... Thats a great returnNo. His wife is or was.
But he was useless in MTL for sure. They should had kept Tatar, or even better, Toffoli.
Hughes owes Yzerman a nice Xmas gift for bailing him out, of what was really close to becoming a PR nightmare with players around the league. Its also part of a long term strategy:
"That doesn’t mean we’re going to do things that are against the organization’s interest. But when we can work together to do what’s best for ourselves and the players we’ll always try to do that and we hope that over time players take note and want to be a part of it.”
Hughes is building a rep that will hopefully attract talent over the longterm with players wanting to play for a team that has a good rep of doing right by them as much as reasonably possible.
Wow sounds like a lot of shit thrown against the wall in hopes that some might be foolish enough to think it's true.... added with Guarantees.Hughes owes Yzerman a nice Xmas gift for bailing him out, of what was really close to becoming a PR nightmare with players around the league.
He went against the spirit of NTCs by reacquiring a player he’d just traded, knowing the only reason his team wasn’t on the list, is because it’s standard practice by agents, for obvious reasons… Which he was one of… Then he played around with a very well respected veteran’s career for 9 days, trying to cash in. What if Detroit changed their mind from Day 1 to Day 9? Sure didn’t look like Buffalo, Toronto or Columbus wanted in on Petry.
If Petry didn’t end up in Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto or Columbus, players would’ve been all over Hughes for treating a respected veteran player like a piece of meat. They were the 3rd team!!! It’s not like they were Pittsburgh in this fiasco.
Players are already treated enough like commodities, and seen this as bush league. There’s no getting around it. For those who don’t know, Petry is also part of the large group of top NHL players who train together in Michigan over the summer. If he ended up somewhere he didn’t want to go, players would’ve been very loud about it.
Guarantee many players who watched this unfold, will already make sure Montreal is on their next NTC, even after Petry ended up where he wanted to go.
Whether over those 9 days or not, Hughes realized this was going sideways, who knows. Ultimately he did the right thing, but don’t for a minute think he wasn’t trying to get more value.
I just read it and was like um what ma dude talking about? lolWow sounds like a lot of shit thrown against the wall in hopes that some might be foolish enough to think it's true.... added with Guarantees.
Next OPINION please.
