This hurts my soul as an Avs fan but it's totally worth it for Dallas. Great signing. I hope Makar nor his agent see this news haha :sarcasm:.

Heiskanen has a relative down year and everyone subsequently downs on him. Sigh.

He's an unbelievable d-man and will be for another decade at minimum. Worth every bit of that contract and more.

That's a lot of money. But big, mobile, high IQ, elite skating defenseen are hard to come by. If Heiskanen fulfills his potential, this will be a huge deal for both sides. Miro is exactly the kind of player I'd want as my backbone come playoff time. Can play against other teams top-talent 25 minutes per night. As he grows a bit in maturity, he's going to be a premiere D in this league.

Beautiful contract for an amazing player. Watching him put up 26 points in 27 playoff games on route to the finals was an absolute treat. Love watching him play, congrats Dallas.

What a steal of a contract for one of the top 10 Dmen in the league during his contract term. He has a shot to be a consistent Norris candidate if things fall into place. Must be nice being in a state with no income taxes... a competitive advantage for sure...

Tough to compare McAvoy and Heiskanen’s contract as McAvoy had more leverage (arbitration eligibility, close to UFA) and a longer track record than Miro. With that being said at first I wanted Dallas to bridge Miro, but that would set him up for a massive pay day in three years

This deal looks like a bargain now after all other defensemen signings.

Long-term 2nd contract vs. 3rd or 4th contracts. The average of AAVs for the first 8 years post-ELC of Werenski is ~$7.87 mil. For McAvoy, it's ~$7.53 mil. Nurse comes in at ~$6.83 mil.

Heiskanen is cheaper moving forward, but Dallas won't realize the short-term cap savings that other teams either chose or were forced to accept.

How does it compare percentage-wise to the cap of their respective signings?

The cap has been flat for the bridges of Werenski and McAvoy. Nurse is marginally more expensive adjusted for inflation.

Looking at it a different way, here's the cap percentage consumed by year, assuming $1 mil annual ceiling increases (for argument's sake).

Don't forget that in Y9, Y10 and Y11 we will likely see Heiskanen jump over the other three again since he will need a new deal under a much larger cap and the others will still be signed.

Sure for a few, but McAvoy > Miro and deserves the extra IMO

There's no Kling to help Charlie out, unless you believe Carlo is that guy

Miro >> McAvoy very soon if not now.

Where is the Marchand, Bergeron, Pasta to help Miro out?

Carlo has been touted as one of the best defensive D in the league, have to think that takes the pressure off of McAvoy considerably. Heiskanen is taking the highest quality of competition virtually always

Don’t have the need to argue but Kling is offensive and Carlo more of a defensive Dman
