So literally an ASU event.. got it - I wouldn't look into him being there as being related but nice to see either way.I'd guess it was this: 20th Annual Sun Devil Kickoff Luncheon | Tempe Chamber of Commerce

A member of the Coyotes front office, face of the Coyotes franchise, and father of a future ASU hockey player was at a Tempe Chamber of Commerce event honoring the start of the ASU Football season. It’s a nice thing!
I am onboard for a season or two of time warp rink hockey.
It's not like we're gonna need full capacity.
I agree, but I doubt the NHL approves that arena. I remember when Minnesota tried to lure the Jets after the Stars left but there wasn't a new arena yet. There was an old arena in St. Paul and Bettman and his crew checked it out but said hell no to that. This is a different situation because it's temporary but they have the final say. It's not like we're gonna need full capacity.

So now that we have clear cut confirmation that Meruelo has that sports betting license, won’t that make him pretty flush with money soon? Everyone seems to say that can help make a franchise pretty lucrative
As far as I can tell Meruelo hasn't partnered with anyone to run the sportsbook with so unless he has all the infrastructure in place it might be awhile before it is generating income. I believe Meruelo's Grand Sierra and Sahara both use William Hill to manage their sports book but the Dbacks already partnered with William Hill and it looks like the sports licensees partner on a 1 to 1 basis with each operator. Likely he will partner with an operator that hasn't gotten tied up with any of the others.
This Japanese site has the only real picture on AVMC I can find in a hockey configuration...
Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum
What a beautiful sightHere's a picture from the Phoenix Roadrunners vs Portland Buckaroos in 1973. The building was beautiful inside before the Suns had it hacked up and trashed in the 80s. And this is pre-plexiglass... they used chicken wire above the boards.
