Could they, maybe but what's the point? They have a young goalie who's further along in his development and more proven at this point. If they're either moving on or upgrading from Schmid it'll be for a vet, not an even rawer, more unproven goalie.

I thought it made more sense to go after Saros but clearly Nashville isn't blowing it up, just wanted to eject Duchene/Johansen from their roster no matter the cost. Seems like Askarov was only dangled to potentially get a top 5 pick so there's nothing there also.

Trotz was willing to trade Askarov to get into the top 4 of this draft, so basically they'd want a potential #1 center. He wasn't dangling Askarov because he felt like he had to trade him. I don't think New Jersey would have what Nashville wants.

I'm not a fan of Askarov personally. Everytime I watch him it looks like he plays goal like a chicken with its head cut off. He's way too unknown to be trading assets for in our position. Goalies are an absolute crap shoot.

I'm sure Montreal would offer a package of assets centered on Josh Anderson who was worth the second overall pick just last year. Failing that Montreal can offer Ryder Halak and a second.

I don't see us moving him (not this offseason, at least) unless he's going back the other way for an upgrade (Hellebuyck) to himself.

He won't be moved just to gain cap space.
