List and/or describe these ways. It's easy to criticize. It's harder to actually think of feasible, alternative, productive solutions.

You asked why we don't shut the country down because of the flu. I listed the reasons. If you removed those reasons, and the flu was actually exactly like COVID, we'd shut the country down too.
-limit large gatherings to 50 people
-restaurants and bars stay open with proper social distancing in place...perhaps half capacity max
-movie theaters, same thing
-no malls open but individual stores can stay open provided they follow social distancing rules established by grocery stores

-absolutely no visits to nursing homes to protect the most vulnerable
-mandatory tests and 2-week quarantine for travelers
-mandatory 2-week self isolation for people not feeling well
-test test test

Halfway measures like that are basically only marginally better than having no measures at all.

Here is a case report of how ONE person spread the virus throughout Chicago:

CDC Report Shows How a Funeral and Birthday Party ‘Super Spread’ COVID-19 in Chicago

It doesn't take a gathering of over 50 people for this virus to spread rapidly.

And how are you going to enforce these regulations? Have police officers in every store, restaurant and bar making sure that people are staying 6 feet apart?

It isn't. And that's where some of the community transmission is coming from.

Now multiply that by 1000 (or whatever number is actually the case) because you still have some bars and other stores open.

Add wearing masks when (indoors) in public. Still see no way schools can be open until there is a vaccine though. Too many kids won’t have symptoms, and will spread the virus all over.

Calgary is really being hit hard:

Curve is basically flattening everywhere else in the province except for them.

Problem is, can’t even get masks for the public right now.

The outbreaks in the Retirement facilities I think have influenced this a lot. But it’s still bad to see.

I’m out here on the left coast. You hearing any reasons for Calgary having so much spread? Is it in the care homes? We had an initial spread that reached 24 care homes, because a few of the younger care aides (who weren’t showing symptoms) were working in several facilities, and unknowingly spreading it. I think those workers are like substitute teachers? They have to work in a lot of facilities to earn enough to make ends meet?

Yeah, this is rough:

Edmonton actually not bad at all, relatively speaking, considering how much denser we are compared to the Northern zone.

The up-to-2-week incubation period of this virus is a real nasty piece of business.
