If you're going to do this backwards, you better do it well and go from 3G to 1G, third pair to first pair and fourth line to first line.

its very even lines, equal playing time, 4st line and 3rd pair could be 1st line and 1st pair

For Canada it would mostly be the 2010 team with some elite reinforcements from 2024. I see something like

Point McDavid Stone
Marchand Crosby MacKinnon
Marleau Getzlaf Perry
Richards Toews Nash
Staal

Pronger Makar
Keith Weber
Morrissey Doughty
Niedermayer

Luongo
Brodeur
Some 2024 goaltender

Canada was weak in LWs both years. I went with Canada 2010s two best lines, then put Crosby on the Nova Scotia line since it works in theory and MacKinnon and Marchand are still talking about how they have dreamed of playing on that line. Hard to know who to put with McDavid so I gave him a bit of everything with some well rounded, experienced players. The defence seems obvious outside of throwing Morrissey in there and Luongo is the obvious starter.

It's a great idea and it's a good team as we still had good D in 2010. Only quibble would be no Zacha as he has refused to represent us from 2010 to 2023. Maybe it changes this year but he shouldn't be on any type of roster in that time frame. Martin Hanzal is my sub for him as I think he was healthy in 2010. If not, Faksa, Kampf or Nosek would all be fine as a 4C.

Nice work! It's nice to look at a D core and think they don't suck.lol

2024 Marchand is not making a combined team Canada, let alone on the second line

Any reason why Iginla was omitted?

He may not but I wouldn't be certain. The left side options are pretty poor today and the options from the 2010 team are not especially great either. Marchand is proven to work with Crosby, probably has some chemistry with MacKinnon from their summer training, and can play a PK role.

Didn't particularly like his play in the 2010 Olympics and he was past his best by 2010. Canada has good RW options so he got squeezed out. If he was a natural LW I would have picked him.

Then why choose Nash over him, with Nash playing on his off wing?

In fairness to Marchand, he was quite good in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. I dislike him alot but have no problem with him on a Team Canada.

(‘10) Marleau-(‘24) MacKinnon-(‘24) Point
(‘24) Marchand-(‘10) Getzlaf- (‘10) Perry
(‘10) Richards- (‘10) Toews- (‘10) Nash
13th: (‘10) Staal

(‘10)Pronger-(‘24)Makar

(‘24) Morrisey-(‘10)Doughty
(‘10)Boyle-(‘10)Niedermayer

Marchand might not be the best pick, but man would it be fun to see Marchand and Perry play on the same line

Nash played both wing positions in the NHL and internationally and more importantly that's exactly where he played in the 2010 Olympics, where he was excellent. The Toews line is exactly as it was in the 2010 Olympics.

It probably depends on the question whether the actual performance of those guys in the 2010 games are factored in or if its all about the level those players were in 2010 in general. If the performance is not factored in, I would probably switch Wick with Rütheman or Domenichelli who i remember as a much better two way player than Wick. You could maybe also make a case for Yannick Weber over Seger but only because he is a natural RHD and not because I prefer him as a player overall. In Goal I definitely would take Stéphane Charlin over Schmid who is having a terrible season in both the NHL and the AHL.

Other than that I think thats pretty much how the team should look like.
