That’s because you’re not paying attention to the bigger picture. He is an nhl calibre goalie. Can easily be a back up goalie in the nhl. Bruins just happen to be stacked on goaltending. They traded an nhl back up for a career ahl player basically. Although bower could easily be more than an ahl player. We saw kik aid this season play in the nhl. He played great, made a lot of difficult saves.

we don’t get a lot of first round picks over on the bruins side :sarcasm:

They traded their third string goalie on their AHL team on an expiring contract who requested a trade.

They weren’t going to get much for him.

Over 3 GAA and a .909 sv % down there

This seems like a crazy deal to me

Why wouldn’t Col just give up a late round pick instead of a once coveted prospect for a 3rd string goalie

Hmm seems like he was previously waived this year and is damaged goods, still a weird trade

Not ironically right in line with his NHL numbers

We need goalie who doesn't get injured so easily. Frankie just not reliable unfortunately, as much as we love him as a player.

Bowers should’ve been traded two years ago. We really smashed his value through the floor before finally cutting him loose.
Sounds like how the Bs handle their prospects as well. Good trader partners.

*Not Kinkaid, just in general the Bruins love crushing their prospect's value then trading them at the bitter end.

It’s nice to see Kinkaid getting valued in the NHL. Loved the guy when he was on New Jersey, i’m always cheering for him
He looked good in the brief time he got with the Bruins while Swayman was hurt. Was a great third string to have, definitely can hang in the big league.

I'm liking this deal for the Bruins. With Kinkaid, Bussi, DiPietro, and Keyser, the minor league goalie situation was very crowded. With how well Bussi's been playing it makes sense to move Kinkaid and Bowers seems like a great reclaimation project. Definitely should push for a roster spot next year when the Bruins are cap crunched again and need some cheap bodies for the 4th line.

Does Bowers still have any untapped potential still? Or do people think his ceiling is lower than it once was?

Francouz won multiple playoff games last year en route to a Stanley Cup. He's a solid backup and great team guy. Do your homework.
Judging by the avatar, I'm certain he is familiar with the playoff wins

Bottom 6 C. Really thought he had a window this year to stake a claim in the Avs lineup, but got broken almost immediately. Could never get back up to the big club after that.

Bruins won this deal to get a young prospect for an aging G vet.

Bowers has skills to be a 4th line 2-way player, but not strong defensively and can't score. Natural Cm but was exposed in the AHL. Tried a LW role and improved, just not enough to replace deep AVs Wingers. AVs play a fast pace and strong offensive game for all lines. He's a decent skater and possibly the AVs style does not suit his abilities. Change was needed if he is to reach the NHL.

Bowers is one of those weird guys who as a prospect, looked like he had a real "high floor" but somewhat "lower ceiling". The types you figure are going to at least carve out some sort of bottom-6 NHL career. Yet here we are many years later...seeing him swapped for a 3rd/4th string depth goaltender because he hasn't established anything at all.

Weird how that happens sometimes. The "safe" picks end up not so safe after all.
