Navin R Slavin
Fifth line center
Well. Sounds like maybe Fleury is the straw that stirs the drink there.
Was at the game last night wasn't the best game for the Checkers to say the least.
1. Terrible possession of the puck
2. Terrible passes
3. Gave the Griffins way too many chances well at least 6 goals worth
Yea, it was embarrassing on every level of the game, there was literally nothing good they did as a team. I will say Tolchinsky played pretty well, about the only player who looked like he actually cared or tried. I also hope it was just a bad game for Fleury because he was noticeable in theseveral bad ways: 1) caught standing around/lost, 2) shots off the player inches in front of him, 3) couldn't keep the puck in at the blue line, even when the puck was slowly passed to him, 4) couldn't keep the front of the net clear and was out-muscled by guys 6 inches shorter and significantly smaller than him. That said, you could apply all that to 90% of the team last night. Both goalies made some good saves, both had 1-2 softies, but both were left completely out to dry. Grand Rapids is a really good team, but even when they sat back we looked like an ECHL team who couldn't make an open ice pass to a wide open player, it was embarrassing and pitiful.
Did you see #31 in the beginning? He got pulled after like 3 straight goals then they put #30 in after that it wasn't too bad but they still scored 3.
Took them long enough to figure this out. But Ned got sent to the ECHL and Altshuller has been called up.
Aarondell... **** you Jon and Tripp.
That's the land right next to Rivendell in middle earth.
Ned's size makes him a longshot to be an impact NHL goalie IMO. How many 5'11" goalies are there in the NHL? (Ok, he's "officially" listed as 6'0")
Looking at the list of 75 NHL starting/backup goalies that have played in the NHL this year, there are only 8 that are listed as 6'0" and under:
Jhonas Enroth 5'10"
Juuse Saros 5'11"
Jaroslav Halak 5'11"
Anton Khudobin 5'11"
Aaron Dell 6'0"
Jonathan Bernier 6'0"
Antti Raanta 6'0"
Dustin Tokarski 6'0"
Not exactly a list of world beaters either.
I'm no expert on Ned, but I suspect that he compensated for his size at lower levels by doing things that simply won't work against professionals.

The Checkers were doing just fine until Leighton got called up and Nedeljkovic played like absolute trash for fifteen games. He wasn't "thrown into" anything either--they signed a proven AHL netminder for pretty much the sole purpose of him not having to carry the burden (which a lot of people disagreed with because WJC or something). Unfortunately Lack got hurt.My take is give Ned 10-20 games against lower level competition to get his confidence back. Keep coaching him up and see if he responds. Then give him another shot at the Checkers.
Throwing him into the morass in Charlotte was a mistake in my opinion.

The writing was on the wall with Ned's OHL numbers. Not only were they bad in his last season, but they had gotten progressively worse from year to year. When someone's having a significantly worse season in their draft+2 year than they are in their draft year, that's a huge red flag. People here decided to ignore it because of some stretches of good play.
Now, maybe he turns it around. Who knows. But making any future plans for this team based on around him would be a huge mistake. At this point he's a gigantic question mark.
