It's a DOGSO (denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity) foul, so the red is automatic.

Sometimes it's refereed to as the "last man back" foul. Basically if you're the last defender and you haul a guy down, you automatically get a red (unless it's in the penalty area, then it's a pen + yellow)
