Some people have wanted to shoot a puck at Tony’s face since the day we signed him years ago!

His play has kinda deserved it this year.
You have to kind of wonder if he hadn't looked injured there would he have been able to get open like that. Did the defenders just think he wasn't a threat or something?

So I see the GWG was preceded by Laine being typically useless in a board battle – against Jarvis who is half his size. He's just not very good at the finer points of hockey, is he.
never been taught or just doesn't have the "want to" (he did have Tortorella so I presume it's the "want to").

It definitely looks like 44 was caught off guard, which allowed Aho to get by him and essentially create a 2-on-1. And Elvis wasn’t in a good position to defend a 2-on-1, leaving far too much net on the right side for Svech to shoot at.

Whether 44 was caught off guard because of the injury or because the puck popped out of the scrum past him, that’s something only he could tell you.

Or it could be because 44 is Eric Gudbrandsen at he’s been hot garbage his entire career.

True. Sometimes we see these boneheaded defensive mistakes on our team. It does feel like on a good team, you tend to get the best out of your guys both by being insulated by a good system and roster, and also by getting confidence and "flow". For example, Brendan Smith wasn't great for this team, but he had stretches of the year where he looked like a passable #5 or a good #6. On Jersey, he's more exposed. Gud might be so slow that he's just awful in any system. I can't tell if he's low replacement level #6 material, or just flat out not an NHLer any more.
