Confirmed Trade: [CBJ/VAN] Vanek for Jussi Jokinen, Tyler Motte

To be fair Motte was worth like a 4th ish you just don't get to pick your own guy and you get someone you know is at least NHL 4th line quality with upside. Give him an off-season to learn the system before you get angry about not having a pick that may or may not even be Motte quality.

Motte is in the lineup now because the Canucks have a lot of injuries, but going to next year he's going to be one of about 8+ guys competing for 2 starting line up positions, and will be near the bottom of that list. The Canucks do actually have a lot of NHL depth right now, the problem is more about too much misspent money and a lot of the players not being very good NHLers. Barring an unexpected breakout Motte is just one more on the large pile of guys we're going nowhere with and will probably be in Europe within a year or two.

listen, you can believe whatever you want to believe, but your talking about imaginary picks there were not offered for Vanek.

JB straight up said NO picks were offered and Motte was the only thing we could get for him. Craig Button preety much said the same thing.

Not as if teams didn’t know he was available. Yet, the best offer was from CBS.

Vanek is who he is. Gms have heir minds made up about him.

Maybe get creative and just take jokinen and make it a conditional draft pick if he does something for them either r gulag season or playoffs. Roll the dice on getting nothing if he doesn’t perform rather than take motte.

Just yanking your chains. Seriously though very happy with additions of Cole, Vanek, and Letestu - and fans were all over Jarmo for not doing enough. I hope they all sign on for another year or two. Team is playing very well right now.

Scenario 1 and 2 would have been okay by most of us.

Scenario 2 would have been best. If Benning was like look I got a 5th no one was offering better we’d Be like wow we got bent over but at least Benning got the best pick value he could.

Scenario 1 would be like at least we didn’t just let him go. he fit in here pretty well we don’t have many GOOD young guns coming in next year, he will be a good complimentary piece who should garner a mid-late pick if he shows he can put up numbers again.

Of course there’s going to be the few vocal ones that rip him no matter what, but there are just as many that just follow him blindly and praise him just because of boeser and Pettersson

The fact of the matter is he has done more harm to this team than good. Look at all of his signings, trades and 1st round picks. Evaluate them yourself and see where he did good and bad. You’ll find for yourself there’s more on the bad side than good. Every trade deadline for probably the last 10 years has seen depth d-men get traded for picks. Yet Benning admitted to just recently figuring that out after this deadline and now finally plans on using that knowledge to his advantage starting next season. he can’t even follow the most basic league rules and blatantly got charged for tampering. Oh there’s also the fact he and linden seem to contradict themselves every other interview. can you blame fans for being against Benning and co?

The thing is, scenario 2 is the only thing worth doing, and there's no way a GM who knows how to negotiate doesn't get at least a 5th for Vanek. I'm left to wonder if Jim even asked for a pick or if he simply nabbed Jarmo's opening offer.

Probably mentioned but not only Vanek is on fire but his linemates are as well. Jenner and Wennberg were having a poor season before being put together with Vanek.

Jarmo should pull a Howson (w/Prospal). Have a handshake deal and keep offering him a 1 year deal until he retires.
