The only risk here are his injuries. Relative to his actual numbers in his career, 1.8 x 2 has been earned.
Last summer he had surgery on one groin. He said it gave him no problems this season. Now he did the other one so maybe he'll be alright now.

Make no mistake though. The people who don't like him now have never liked him, regardless of performance. This precedes the injuries and unavailability in the playoffs. Now they're just hiding behind that. It's either they hate him for his college incident or they find his playstyle unsettling.

For me, the only better realistic option was Fleury. I think he would take Montreal over Pitt if Price is gone though, because there he'd get more games. I'm curious about Edmonton too, if Smith is done.
You could argue Holtby, but I could see CDS outplaying him next year.

And honestly all this is based on people fearing for Jarry's availability next playoffs. Are we gonna be unlucky with goalies in the playoffs for a 3rd year running?
Odds are Jarry will play and the backup won't be relevant in the end.
Isn't it just a 1st round exit either way?

So this guy gets rewarded for forgetting his passport. When I do it my wife says “I ruined our honeymoon” 🙄

If she got Emil Larmi to fill in then she has nothing to complain about.

So/so goalie, but look at that jaw line.

I still don't believe this has any bearing whatsoever on Geno and Letang. It's probably below market value for a backup, or right around average. It was probably to be assumed the team would be spending around this amount for Jarry's backup regardless.

The issue is that it seems like the FO isn't even willing to replace the backup that's been injured the last two playoff runs. If they're not willing to make a change that insignificant and low risk, they sure as shit aren't gonna be aggressive in shopping guys like Zucker, Dumo, Petts/Marino, or trying to land someone with enough offensive punch to make a difference like Forsberg.

I think it mostly just means the front office isn't serious about competing. :dunno:

That's pretty much my point. If they're not gonna go through the gimme move of swapping out a backup for someone hopefully more reliable/durable, they're not gonna do shit that matters like I listed above--which the team absolutely needs to do to legitimately compete for a Cup again.

Why would they make any changes to this roster? We were a Jarry and DeSmith injury away from being where Colorado is. ;)

@Honour Over Glory must be ecstatic right now.

NHL - Bans Voynov for abusing his wife (but openly let Zolnierczyk play and didn’t do shit about Mitch Miller nor Logan Mailloux, the Yotes dumped MM while his USHL team praised him, ridiculous).
NHL Teams - Bans Leipsic for calling Pearson’s wife fat and other garbage in a group chat.
NHL. - Keeps letting dirtbags and racists stay in the league, while pumping “Hockey is for everyone.”
Pittsburgh Penguins - Continue to employ a bloke that got drunk and beat the crap out of his then girlfriend while sitting on her and wailing on her and spitting on her, not as a teenager either.

It’s more disturbing how little our “Pens fans” care about that about “CDShit”

Why even pretend to give a f*** if they really don’t. Beach stuff only blew up because it garnered such a reaction that the league couldn’t sweep it away or ignore it like they were doing for like a decade.

Just have the boys slap on some rainbow stick tape, run the cliche graphics overlay for a game and wait for two weeks. - NHL rep, probably

I’m with @Andy99 and seemingly most others with this.

It’s fine. He’s worth that. Obviously his AAV took a ding due to injuries. But it’s also like, there’s not a lot of room to even improve a team and this was one opening where we could’ve added a guy that’s maybe more than just a solid backup- like Holtby, Fleury or Adin Hill.

But it’s cheap and not a long-term commitment either and you need guys playing above their pay to win, and I think he will.

*News about some gang rape by team Canada, USHL making racist Mitch Miller player of the year*

NHL - “Hey fans, is Austen Matthews the best American player ever? Vote here!”

Nobody deserves a second changes say the self righteous keyboard expert.

Just like the keyboard experts pretend to know what’s going on in a locker room now we have an expert pretending to witness an alleged domestic situation.

We can’t change the problems in hockey but we can change by calling posters out for narrative fabrication.

We employed Billy Tibbets for several seasons. Check out his rap sheet, and how he's doing now.
CDS attended substance abuse counselling after his incident and seems well adjusted now.

What's really disturbing is how comfy his seat will be next playoffs when he's injured again, and we have no proper backup (spicy pork again?)!

We also employed Harry Zolnierczyk who committed revenge porn and ruined a woman's life and the town they lived in would verbally assault the victim (which is why a lot of women don't speak out and settle out of court so they get some sort of closure but never see the shitbags punished how they should be) and Steve Downie who uttered racial slurs to Akim Aliu, of whom has had experiences I can personally relate to and many others unfortunately. This franchise is filled with hypocrites and shitty people blokes here put on a pedestal. Mario was or wasn't present during a rape as well.

Doesn't justify keeping DeSmith. Who was volatile about the incident and a PR stunt to fix his nhl career doesn't justify what he did or apologize it away.

So pardon me while I don't give a flying f*** about Casey and his bullshit rehab that he did to get better so he could look good to some nhl teams dumb enough to sign him, of which we are a fan of.

Mitch Miller also went to counselling. Still kept harassing a disabled black kid even after that.

It's funny how all these stories come out and a piece of shit like Casey and others fly under the radar. Easier to punish an Ahl nobody that makes a monkey gesture or yells a racial slur like Keven Veilleux. But an nhler that serves a purpose?

Turn a blind eye mate! It's all good. Let's hire some women in the NHL as assistant ahl coaches, Assistant Gms etc. But let's do nothing when players hurt women and get away with it with being privileged enough to continue their nhl career without a hitch.

Ps - let's never forget Ron Burkle being a fixture on Air Epstein. His appetite for young women would be normal for a billionaire, but once you attach yourself to that name, you know there's fire in that smoke and why no names came out.

That rational part of me thinks, “What are the odds the both of them will be injured come playoff time again?” It seems really unlikely until you realize and admit to yourself that running goalies around playoff time has become the norm around the league over the last few seasons. I suppose some of that is a function of the defense, but it would be nice to have a sturdier guy.
