This guy looks like he has no association to NC in any way. There is no guarantee he keeps team here. This "Agreement" may be something like he only has to keep the team here for x amount of years.

BoH board leaking.

This guy has bought franchises his whole life and presumably made money doing so. Was he ever part of moving a major franchise? Seems like that would be obvious big news.

This article says he'll split his time between Dallas and Raleigh and will be looking to add additional LOCAL investors. I don't think he'd be looking for more local investors if he was planning on relocating.

Could certainly be true....but if the price is correct, the additional $150 million to move the team would seem to not make much financial sense.

Dude is from Pittsburgh, I think, bought the Texas Rangers and minor league B-ball teams in PA, SC, and CA. I think he lives in TX. Not sure what any of this means, but you don't buy a team, announce that it will stay, and then move it unless something drastic happens....maybe he's a shill for QC:sarcasm:

That's standard in any team purchase. I think the NHL requires 5 years after purchase.

Nothing is ever guaranteed, but this puts to bed any idea that Karmanos is angling to move them to QC. Also, it seems unlikely that anyone would buy this team for $500M with the intention of relocating years from now. At a lower price point, maybe. At this price point... probably not.

He owns a minor league baseball team in Myrtle Beach and lives in Texas...seems to like sports in the south, so that is encouraging at least.

He's a sports ownership gadly but he's a good owner. He owns the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and they're widely considered one of the best run franchises in MiLB in part due to his ownership.

Not a major franchise. The only franchise he's purchased that he relocated was the New Jersey Cardinals (Short Season-A, New York-Penn League) which he moved from Augusta, NJ to State College, PA.

He doesn't own any teams in CA. The 3 MiLB franchises he owns are the aforementioned Spikes, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and the Frisco Roughriders (that's Frisco, TX). He also owned the Altoona (PA) Curve at one point, but sold the team.

TSN picked it up (and they do call him Bloomberg Scott):

http://www.tsn.ca/report-hurricanes-close-to-selling-for-500m-1.803998

$500m would be more than twice what Forbes valued them at last year.

EDIT: WRAL with unnamed sources:

http://www.wralsportsfan.com/rs/page/12745416/?break_id=18389

Twice what Forbes values teams at is what every team sells for in every sport. They're always laughably wrong on their valuation, but they're laughably wrong in a consistent way. $500M is also about what the minority shares they sold a few years ago would have been worth for the full team, so that sounds right.

Hey guys,

I don't know **** all about the business aspect of the NHL, but reading some things it looks like this is nothing but great news for you. Very happy for all of the fans of the team. As a Sabres fan I used to have a great hatred of your franchise, but the past ten years that each team has gone through has softened that immensely.

And then this past year, in an effort to explain why our coach's system was so bad, I did some extensive analysis on the H-Canes, comparing the possession stats and transition plays of a team that many Sabres fans believe has less forward talent than we do, to what we did, to show that it was Bylsma actively hindering our team and not the inability of our players to play possession hockey. In doing this project, I fell in love with a lot of the players on Carolina, and the style of hockey Peters has your team playing in general. You guys are going to be a force for years to come the way you're building. And now you can relax knowing that you'll get to watch it develop right where it should be.

Here's to many future playoff series between the teams (and sorry for any damages Sabres fans may cause throughout the course of them - I don't know why they pick your city to be maniacs when they're so quiet and reserved here at home).

Sorry i wanted to take a stab a being a wet blanket:sarcasm: Seriously though trust me im last person who would want this team to move. Didn't see that article BBA linked. If he is looking for local investors then yeah i dont see any intention of moving soon.
