?!?

This is hard to believe considering how wonderful it went in September. Perhaps he resigned for whatever reason?
in some cases like dusty with nats it makes sort of sense (kept losing in first round) but this makes zero

the cards weren't expected to do much and stormed into the playoffs on a winning streak

So basically he wants to actually, you know, manage the team now that he built up some equity and they won't let him.
Basically.

Management is content with being just competitive enough to get in but not spending the money to actually win it knowing fans will show up no matter what.

classic case of the FO and GM not seeing eye to eye. but still shocking that they fired him after what the cards did in the second half

Pretty sure that after aquiring Arenado, the Cards were expected to be the favorites to win the division without the first half struggle they had.

If they were favorites to win the division by anyone, they sure as hell didnt look at that pitching staff and they didnt have the lineup to outscore their mediocre at best pitching.

Shildt had a better regular season win percentage than Whitey and TLR.

Really starting to dislike DeWitt on down to Girsch

This was surprising but I'm fine with it. Shildt was just a slightly better Matheny.

The philosophical differences is probably that Shildt wanted to use the same 3 relievers every game. Matheny was/is a moron but I remember when Mozeliak trade Allen Craig just so he would play Oscar Tavares (RIP). Probably didn't wanna go through that again.

Seems like Oli Marmol and Stubby Clapp are the favorites right now. I don't think Oquendo wants to manage. Maybe they take a look at old pal Skip Schumaker. Or maybe Yadi player-manages for a year and takes over full time in 2023 :sarcasm:

The entire pitching staff was ravaged by injuries this year. Flaherty, Mikolas, Hudson and Martinez all missed more than half the season and even Kim had a couple spells on DL. They made the trades for Lester and Happ just because they needed bodies. Lester and Happ surprisingly wound up pitching well over the last two months.

Mozeliak is the real issue here. Somehow he just always seems to stay around. Who does he get really get along with?
Cardinal viewership is way down with a team that made the playoffs. That's a bad situation. Ownership is all about money and letting
go a manager that was brought up through the organization is typical Mozeliak,

Shildt's not that good tbh. Their success was on Jeff Albert being an elite level hitting coach.

God, the Cards offense was middling so if Jeff Albert is a great hitting coach, I hate to see a mediocre one.
