It's 1 year. Unless he thinks his career is over after a year, you'd have to look at what such a move does over the length of career - the pressure, the potential for tenision with teammates, etc There are many factors involved and such a move could lessen earning power cumulatively. We aren't talking a UFA veteran who has proven value getting his value.

I don't think this is a slam-dunk match as you think. That is a lot of cheddar for a young kid with only 2 full seasons in the NHL. The cap hit and escalation on AAV is disgusting. This screws MTL in a huge way moving forward if they match. I will not be surprised at all if they walk away and take the picks.
