Here's the thing. Under $5M a season for 8 seasons is a win for Carolina. This is an extremely rare example of a win-now team making a win-for-the-future play. Time will tell if it pays off.

Good deal and well played by the Canes. Needs to work on his skating and be more consistent. I think his upside is somewhat limited but see him settling in as a 35-40 point middle 6 C. But really needs to work on his skating.

And he better show in the playoffs because the Canes used their TDL capital to acquire him. I'd bet he does, and will be better then what they could have acquired + the 8 years. Will be interesting.
