I wonder what it’ll take to get Hagelin out of the lineup. He is an offensive black hole and only Dowd, who has a much smaller sample size, has worse underlying stats in terms of high danger chances against, scoring chances created, and expected goals. His usage comes into play and he has one of the lowest OZone start percentages but he gets absolutely cratered on those tough assignments, which is supposed to be his speciality. He has the most PK TOI but again that’s largely driven by a number of PKers being out for varying periods of time and at some point even if he is elite on the PK, his horrible ES performance can’t be ignored.

In sum: provides zero offense and is supposed to be an elite defensive forward but is getting smoked most of the times he’s on the ice, but he’s a pretty good penalty killer. Sounds like the profile of a lot of AHLers that get 7 minutes a night and are asked to just eat pucks on the PK.

Look at Dowds salary. He isn't supposed to be elite anything. He's just doing his best because Backstrom is out and Eller is gone fishing.

Dowd isn't a problem, his usage (partially because of injuries and partially because Lavi is a dinosaur) is the problem.

Yes. Lavi is a dinosaur. He trusts that Dowd line with his life/job. They are not going to play 4th line mins. Maybe they can fire him some time next season. He has a 4 year contract. Right?

JMO but the eye test shows that Dowd is a decent player who sometimes helps create chances.

And Hagelin is not doing anything useful except penalty killing. He's been spoon-fed excellent scoring chances and failed every time. His shot has always been weak but now somehow his passes are garbage too.

It’s enough already with Hagelin. He simply cannot be on this roster when the postseason starts. Pay the second rounder it’s going to cost us to get Arizona to take him and be done with it.

I really dont care but some of you guys are very likely going to be very unhappy with all the investment you are making on this. There were 4 forwards that played more than he did in FL.

You do care because you comment on it every time. And the whole “well if you disagree with the coach you must be advocating for firing him” every time is tired.

Also, what is happening and what should happen are two different things. The HDH line is much less effective this year in terms of being the shutdown line. Lavi is relying on them too much and the results are poor. Hagelin played more than four forwards and they blew a three goal lead — interesting.

Before the “results are so poor that they’re in first place” strawman gets dropped, it is possible to have positive outcomes with less than positive inputs.
