Disagree about carlson being good in a couple years. Dude is trending down, fast. He looks like he weighs a metric ton whenever he tries to skate.

And i really miss mcphees drafting.

mcphee didnt draft. they guy who did is still with the caps

You disagree he was the Cap’s first superstar? Come on...

He certainly isn’t now, but he was at one point.
We had some other very good players over the years. If you are talking goal scoring we had Gartner or Maruk. Or on the back end we had guys like Langway and Stevens.

Ovechkin obviously. Our only generational player and he's half the player he used to be. Meanwhile, they have the so-called "two-headed monster" in Pittsburgh with #87 and #71.
Is he a generational player? He has always been a one dimensional player.

He is a generational player. One dimensional does not describe him accurately, he does more than just scoring goal. At his best, he was the #1 all-around threat on the ice. He could do it all.

Of course his personal accomplishments speak for themselves.

Pittsburgh has two generational players, we have one and he's not even close to being the player he was at his peak. Pittsburgh has an identity but at the end of the day, we can't match their top end skill.
True, but in their last two cup runs it has all been about their supporting cast with players like Sheary, Guentzel, Dumoulin, Schultz, Daley, Kessel, and Bonino being major factors. Our supporting cast has never supported our stars in that way.

Their supporting cast stepping up is also the product of Sullivan's excellent coaching and their top players' leadership. They believed in themselves and they were guided to success. They did exactly what we should've done. This is what makes it super frustrating.

That comment is completely inacurrate. He has never done it all. He is a pure goalscorer. In recent years the majority of his goals are from his office. With Backstrom setting him up for a ton of those, and now Kuznetsov. Ovi has always been a weak defensive player. Earlier in his career he didn't even play defense. He floated back to the defensive end. He isn't even complete in the offensive zone. He isn't very good at cycling the puck. His playmaking is average at best. At times he would forget he had team mates and would try to go one four. He is a big guy but doesn't crash the net often enough. He would rather sit in his office and wait for Backstrom to feed him. Don't get me wrong he is a great goalscorer but has never been a player that does it all. The player that does it all for us is Backstrom.

I watched those guys play. They weren't close to as dominant as Ovie was in his peak seasons.

You can make a case for post-Caps playoff Stevens, but that's irrelevant for these purposes.

Ovie is the Caps' first and only superstar to date.
