Why pay for Sanehim, who imo is a 4-5-6, when Free Agency shows us we can buy guys like Soucy-Cole for 3mil or less without having to commit long long term.

massive 8 year contract commitments should be specifically used only on top pairing Dmen.

Sanheim is closely trending towards OEL trajectory.

Before last year, Sanheim was a top pair dman by advanced metrics. He had a bad year, it happens. But he has shown he is a good dman while playing with guys like Risto and MacDonald.

A NTC is tougher to move, but I think Sanhiem will bounce back and have value like a 1st and he will be fine leaving the shot show of a Flyer team.

The players will care because if they aren’t getting the security of 7-8 year deals then the NHL better force the bad teams to spend closer to the cap. Which will ensure more guys are getting paid. Should make the league more competitive too.
Clearly the post is referring to the comment about the floor.

That's absolutely bogus. That's not how Torts runs his bench whatsoever.

There are a lot of players who do respond well to that sort of coaching. He gets a lot out of certain types of players with a particular sort of demeanor. But it's a "my way or the highway" sort of thing, where everywhere he goes, you see examples of players who just didn't "buy in" to his way of running a bench, and it's a very black and white thing. There's not really any room for middleground or meeting halfway with Torts coaching style.

So you get cases like Sanheim, who just absolutely crater in their play under his style of coaching. Calling anyone who doesn't thrive under Torts awful coaching style "entitled babies" is so far out of alignment with the reality of the matter. Plenty of extremely hard-working players have been obliterated by his one-note coaching style. The most blatant example of that for me, is having watched the way Torts completely destroyed Jannik Hansen's play. A perennial "unsung hero" and one of the hardest working players on the team. But for whatever idiotic reason, he landed immediately in Torts doghouse and never got out. Meanwhile, other absolute useless plugs would get into the lineup or have heaps of undeserved icetime simply because they were "big tuff" and would fightpunch or throw themselves in front of every puck while they were hemmed in their own zone for eternity.

Torts just isn't remotely flexible or diverse in his handling of players. He's got one tone for everyone, and if it doesn't resonate...too bad, that player is going to have a bad time and he's not going to get anywhere near the best out of them.

Puts the GM in an awkward situation too...when you've got a guy like Sanheim whose "value" is seriously eroded by Torts inability to adapt his coaching to handle the player effectively.
When did Torts coach you?

Tortorella doesn't communicate with players about his decisions. It's a noted issue. The guy isn't professional at all.

If the floor is raised to say… 94% of the cap, then there will be more money for aging vets that can be a player on a lesser team. So his prime earning years will be elongated even if he isn’t on the same club for 8 years.

Raising the cap floor means more money for vets.

You think they will raise the cap to 94% of the cap? What? Why would the PA want that? If you have to be ridiculous to make a point, you have no point. You’re getting lost just to be pedantic.

The PA doesn’t care about the floor. They just want to protect players money. Its a 50/50 revenue split. Players get their money. The floor is there for the owners who revenue share.

A 8 year extension at 6.25 is just kicking in for Sanheim now... Not too many teams will be interested at all in that

Seems like Philly is gonna have to make it a Sanheim + to get teams somewhat interested

it would be annoying if the Canucks bought out OEL to handcuff themselves to Sanheim massive contract. There's no way the Canucks add to Boeser or Garland... Canucks shouldn't entertain a 1 for 1 as its a bad deal for us. That draft would've been a nightmare if we traded away Willander for Sanheim.
