Wish they mic’d up the coaches and refs more often. Those little exchanges say so much, especially in context of Rod being a bit of a martyr about penalties.
That was about the trip. I dont even recall who it was on but I could see rod across the way being livid. I was shouting how can you trip someone when your back is to them?

But it's also worth noting that it's pretty apparent from that that the refs don't remotely take him seriously anymore when he's lobbying for a call, because he's always up to 11 and they think he's always crying wolf. I definitely think that factors into how we're treated.

And if we're being honest, they think that way about all the coaches. They're professional referees, even under the best circumstances they only give collegial lip service to caring what a coach thinks.

That's exactly what K did for 40+ years, and there's no question that he benefited from it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

I think it's slightly different in basketball, because of the number and nature of calls they need to make. In a building as rabid as Cameron, a coach can very easily get a ref sweating and reluctant to blow down a close call. If they're making 15-20 foul calls per game, and the game context is highly dependent on the cadence of those calls, there's an opening to maybe influence a couple of them psychologically. Hockey is a bit different, with there only being a few calls a game, the calls being mostly independent of game context, and the fans not sitting right on top of the refs.

If we don't get another because I'm sure Boston, Pittsburgh, Rangers, etc. will be getting like 10 more before we're considered, I'm glad it was proven it can work here.
Dundon was saying post event that he went from wanting to do it every year to once every few years becuase of all the work that had to go into it, but it sounds like we'll be pressing hard to do this regularly. Don't think it'll be the last.

I'm guessing that it would lose some of the "specialness" if it was done every year. I know I'd have way less interest in the Olympics if they were held every year.
