The cap goes down next year Jokinen makes 3 million clearly teams don't want to take a chance on a player that might not find his game. Babchuck is a UFA and teams are desperate for any depth at defense they can get.

Flames shouldn't claim Jokinen for the simple fact that he has another year on his contract. Pretty obvious the Canes couldn't find a trade partner willing to take Jokinen for a pick or an expiring contract, so they placed him on waivers hoping another team would rid them of a problem.

Yup. It's closing on the deadline and teams aren't even "gambling" on free assets, let alone ones that will cost you picks or prospects. Babs & Sarich are nowhere as valuable as Jokinen so I believe Feaster could shop all day and couldn't get a bag of pucks for them

Jokinen isn't free he costs 3 million next year and given his level of play this year that is a vast overpayment.

Other then a true center, there is nothing the Flames need more than a guy who is money in the shoot out. How many points have the Flames thrown in the garbage by shooting at the goalies crest in the last few seasons?

I'd say a good shoot out specialist would be worth 5 points to the Flames in the standings over a full season. Not sure that Jussi is that guy though, but something that needs to be addressed this summer but likely will not be.

Jokinen has a bad contract. With the cap going down, you can't risk paying him that much for his production. Reminds me of the Ales Kotalik situation a few years back, except Dumbass Sutter isn't around to claim that horrible contract.

Do you think they are making room for Iginla in Carolina? They could use a strong winger to compliment Semin and Staal or with j. Staal.
