They could've had him for free off waivers earlier in the year.
This is going to be an “in their defense” answer that really ends up exposing how bad the front office is

In their defense…they didn’t have these bottom six injuries when he was on waivers. All their PK forwards are injured. Benson has been doing it at 18.

Now..the better way to look at it is this is Adams answer to another lost season. A guy that couldn’t beat out your bottom six players when they were healthy…in your terrible bottom six.

This will be the third player that Adams has bothered to trade for to help his NHL team since the Eichel trade. Don’t laugh…it’s probably his second biggest move.

Greenway and Stillman at the deadline. This.

Stillman is already in the AHL.

This is 25 months worth of work on a team that is supposed to be building a winner.

This is what Adams has bothered to do in over two full years.

Here comes all the Sabres fans saying this is Adams big move....
With his track record it is roughly the biggest move he’s made that didnt involve a star player demanding a trade. Yes.

Perhaps you’d like to show us all the counterpoint. What is his biggest trade in the last 25 months? Greenway? Is this number 2?

The bottom 6 for the Sabres has been pretty bad for a long time. If he can provide some forechecking and PK ability without being abhorrently terrible in the d zone at ES, he will be an upgrade.

The Sabres have 2 players (Greenway and Girgensons) who are pretty good in the defensive zone, and both are often (and currently) injured. Tage Thompson has been good at the PK, but got injured while in that role. That's basically it for defensively capable forwards, other than 18 year old and ~160 lb Zack Benson.

It is a BODY. Not a meaningful, culture changing trade yeesh. Take off your gloom colored glasses for once. Must be exhausting.

Wondering if this is a move to fill Rochester because Rosen or Kulich aren’t going down anytime soon.

Which is also an issue in itself

Not a great look on those pieces - but being honest greenway has been pretty good for us. Still nothing that moved the needle enough…

Who da f*** is this guy?

Speedy forechecking winger. Perfectly suitable bottom six grinder. Certainly not any worse than some of the guys the Sabres are already trotting out there. Definitely not the answer to any big problem though. At his best he plays with lots of speed, energy and some physical edge. So he’s an upgrade in that department over some of the soft, vanilla guys on the team.

You don’t need to color glasses. You can use your eyes and look at reality

In TWENTY FIVE MONTHS here is the complete list of NHL players Adams has provided to his building team

Greenway
Stillman (now in AHL)
Comrie
Lyubushkin (already traded)
Clifton
Erik Johnson
Jost
Robinson

Thats over two years of Adams actual moves. So yeah…for him this is a big move. Because look at what he does. Look at who he is and what he provides.

That is TWO YEARS of work.
