IMO Rays need to trade BJ (he will not be here next year) and possibly Shields if the offer is good (archer looked good the brief time he came up, or Davis can move from bull pen) for prospects, and/or someone that can hit the baseball.

Not a big fan of Shelton but this isn't exactly a murderous row of hitters either. Without Longoria and Joyce this team was going to struggle to score runs. This team for the last few years has been preaching pitching and defense because they don't have the horses to keep up with the Red Sox and Yankees offensively. With a new hitting coach there might be a slight improvement but they aren't going to be a high scoring team. It's not like the Angels who had one of the best hitters of all time come back to normal and an elite prospect to call up once they fired their hitting coach. They just don't have the depth to overcome the injuries they've had this year. The Rays have done a great job of developing pitchers but the same can't be said for players at the plate.
While I agree with the roster being relatively ******, the plate discipline of the team has been downright putrid.

I understand BJ has his faults but who are we going to put in center?

You'd think the ownership/front office people would be embarrassed enough to do something about it. That crap shouldn't be tolerated or treated as just another loss.

It is just another loss though, doesn't matter if they were no hit or the pitching staff gave up 20 runs. If people want to get rid of Shelton because of the offense over the last two-three years, ok that's a big enough sample size. You don't make changes based on four or five games, that's not how the Rays front office works.

When our hitting has been anemic and terrible for the last few years, you make changes. These 3(!) perfect games and one no-hitter are unacceptable. We've been one-hit probably 300 times in the last couple years it seems. This team should be better than that.

I think the decline in runs scored the last two years should be the reason for any changes made if they're going to move away from Shelton. I just think using those handful of games shouldn't be the reason(or at least the main one). In 2010 they were perfect game'd and no-hit, they finished that year third in runs scored so it's not always an indicator of how bad an offense is.

Again, I say that as an Indians fan, FIRE SHELTON!!!!!

There is no debating this. Fire him. Yesterday. He is NOT hitting coach material. There is a laundry list of things in Tampa Bay alone, and he already had one in Cleveland.

Shame on Maddon for hiring him.

Our depth isn't very good at all. Team didn't look like they bothered to show up.

As much as I despise a certain hitting coach, that perfect game from a few days ago doesn't seem like it happened after that road trip to the LAA.
