Martin is overrated by nostalgic Sens fans.

He could never coach effectively when it mattered AKA the playoffs.

Martin is overrated by nostalgic Sens fans.

He could never coach effectively when it mattered AKA the playoffs.

Martin's problem was that he wouldn't or couldn't adapt when teams game-planned the Sens. Couldn't or wouldn't make the in-game adjustments necessary to win when the opposing team went outside the playbook.

Martin's biggest problem was that he couldn't crush his enemies, see them driven before him, and see the lamentation of their women.

Martin was the perfect coach for the Sens in the mid 90's, his defense first trap style hockey helped improved the Senators from being the worst team in the NHL to a playoff team in only one year.

In hindsight, he probably should have been let go back in 2002 when Ottawa lost to the Leafs for the third straight season. Had he been fired, Pat Burns, who would sign with New Jersey, was available that off-season, although I doubt Bryden would have outbid the Devils to hire him.
