Trending Andrei Markov's performance over the course of the 2013 season

Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Andrei Markov had a consistent 2013 season. This, despite seeing his first NHL action in well over a year.

Tracking every puck-possession play over the course of an entire season allows us to track how well a player is playing during each and every game. Taking those numbers and trending them over the entire season gives us a clear and objective view of how consistent (or inconsistent) a player has played. This also allows us to visualize any upward or downward trends in a player's performance.

Trending Lars Eller's performance over the course of the 2013 season

Montreal Canadiens' forward Lars Eller's play in the defensive-zone improved dramatically over the course of the season; particularly his ability moving the puck successfully out of the defensive-zone.

Trending PK Subban's performance over the course of the 2013 season
Montreal Canadiens' defensemen, and Norris Trophy winner PK Subban's 2013 season can be described as incredibly consistent. Subban's overall and even-strength ratings were head-and-shoulders above any other Montreal defenseman. In fact, even Subban's lowest ratings were consistently better than his teammates.

These are the numbers of a Norris Trophy winner:

The gap between Gionta and the rest of the top nine wingers in the defensive zone is pretty noticeable.

And this makes very clear something that should be obvious but hasn't quite sunken in I think, Pacioretty is an amazing puck possession winger, far above anyone else on the team there.

The other thing people didn't quite appriciate was how good Armstrong was at hockey in general for a 4th liner. Shame he couldn't score many goals.

Next season he'll become even better at taking his opposing winger's body when we win the faceoffs in the ozone. :sarcasm:
