Vatrano is a smaller Brett Connolly and played like him with the bruins. He has this incredible shot that he never seems to get off or when he does it’s from places that have 0% chance of going in. And he doesn’t offer much else when it comes to smarts, positioning and passing. But he does seem to skate hard each shift and if he finds a good spot to shoot (he hasn’t for about 18 months) his shot is lethal. Just never seems to be in a good spot to take one

Good luck to Vatrano. Literally went GPG in the AHL one year. He needs a fresh start. He could end up being a legitimate NHL goal scorer, but it didn't make sense for the Bruins to give him the leash he needed.

So Holden + upgrading their 3rd for O'Gara + Vatrano so far this offseason. Both O'Gara and Vatrano were at the point where they had no chance in Boston.

Put him on Barkov's wing and tell him to be ready to shoot. Then tell him really to be ready. Instant success.

I think the Bruins are either going to get Grabner or think Donato can come right in and contribute, don't think they'll trade for Nash or Maroon - too old and slow too high a price for a rental , too slow and so so and history with chia dealing him out

There's been a 3rd line wing spot up for grabs for awhile. Been rotating between depth guys and Vrbata to play with McCann and McGinn all year.

Or he goes into the top six and pushes Bjugstad or Malgin onto the 3rd line.

I don't see him pushing out Bjugstad or Malgin, both of which at this stage are better NHL players than Vatrano. Vatrano has an incredible shot and is involved but his game just doesn't translate very well to the NHL. He needs lots of space to create his chances and get his shot lose, which he does not get at the NHL level.

Replace car with "3rd Round Pick" and this is a pretty good summary of the trade deadline week so far.

Good deal for Florida, good deal for Boston. He was not going to make the Bruins next year even if they re-signed him, too many very good young players coming in. He could turn into a decent goal scoring winger if he is given a steady chance and he makes the best of it. Boston would have lost him for nothing if they waived him.
