Good thing Blash is here to lead the tank then.Look at Vegas talk about getting the most out of players 7 players with career years.

Might as well draft the brother Hughes these next two drafts.Blashill + Coreau = Jack Hughes
As long as Blash now fully understands he’s here to prioritize youth development and not try to win meaningless games, I’m fine with this. We’ll suck next year regardless of who the coach is.
I would disagree. The GM should not meddle in coaching matters more than absolutely necessary. That's not on Blashill though, thats on Holland.
I've said in the past that the direction given to Holland is likely given to him by ownership, and I feel the same thing about Blashill with Holland. The direction the head coach takes, is likely given to him by the GM, or at least it should be.

I'm sure those kind of discussions happen but in the end the coach needs to be given free reign of lineup decisions. The GM can demand kids playing or build the roster in such a way the coach is forced to insert younger player, but the coach can still choose to play them 5 minutes per game if he doesn't think they help the team win. Unless a coach has really good long-term job security he'll want to make the team as competitive as possible, not play some kids because they could be good 2, 3, 4, 5 years later when maybe some other coach has taken over. When it comes to the overall direction of the team, so for example telling the coach "I want you to win" or "I want the kids playing" that I think the GM should be giving direction on.
When it comes to the small things, agreed. If a coach is say benching a player due to an attitude issue, I am fine with that. When it comes to line combos, GM should have no say.

But unless Blash has another job lined up, he's still going to play the lineup in a way that maximizes results in order to look better for his next job. And Holland can't make any guarantees about jobs with other teams, just the Wings. The coach gets his job security from the GM.
If the GM has job security and tells you that youth is the priority, then that's your job.

The most Holland can do is say "I will talk to anyone you interview with and explain that we directed you to play the team that way."
Yup, the problem with this team is Larkin's usage and drafting Larkin.Trash gets schooled every night by the oppositions coach. Blaming others like Torch for a pathetic pp is comical. Just look at the players he tried to win with and it is self explanatory on why the poor "Team Results". PP specialists #71 sucked up pp time like he was #99 of the Oilers only to produce one ph***** goal for the entire year. It really is beyond the scope of ANALYTICs to describe such poor results by a player who had the puck on his stick the majority of pp time. Tatar sucked up big pp minutes as well ....only to find himself now as a healthy scratch by the black nights....yes but kenny has picks for him...really .....with all those picks combined he will not find a PASTRANAK.....just cracked up laughing when I heard that he was still available for the wings to draft when they drafted 71.
Nice hot take, but couldn’t be more wrong. Sorry none of your goalies are competent but Howard actually is.flyers fan coming in peace, i think your goaltending is has been a biggest issue since you guys won the cup, signing howard to that big contact was a mistake, if you had a maf, i think this team would be in the playoffs.
It's the exact opposite.
If you don't have job security, why in the hell would you ignore an order from your boss.
It's going to get out in the press why you're playing young kids and that it's a rebuild.
If you disobey your GM, that's going to get around the GM circuit - and impair your ability to land your next job.

Goaltending has not been outstanding but it is far from being the issue. It all starts with having a defense made up of maybe two #3 defensemen and the rest being #4 or bottom pairing guys. Improving the defense is a struggle since we are against the cap with money tied up in unmovable contracts on players that are not exactly difference makers.flyers fan coming in peace, i think your goaltending is has been a biggest issue since you guys won the cup, signing howard to that big contact was a mistake, if you had a maf, i think this team would be in the playoffs.
