If you are a contender that wants to get a player to help your cup run you run the trade through Chicago who retains 50%.Teams aren't going to be giving up assets to save cash for 1 month of salary.
3 is the limit iirc.Hawks cannot retain in any deal, they already have two contracts they are retaining on at this time; Saad and Maata; which I believe is the maximum.

Friedman needs to finish his thought. Sheesh Elliott. Chicago will take on expiring cap dumps. The expiring part is the most important aspect. They won’t want bad contracts with term.
Actually, per CapFriendly, the Red Wings have:Just so y'all understand how much cap space the Hawks have this year, we currently have about $26 million in LTIR and of the $26M salary pool that creates we're only currently using a fraction with almost $22 million in space remaining. No other team has even half that much space.
Tor- Hall, Staal
Buff- 1 st and B-prospect
Chi- 50% of Hall for 3rd/4th
Leafs received a 5th for 2,500,000 last season
Missed that one! You're right. Are they taking on salary too?Actually, per CapFriendly, the Red Wings have:
CURRENT CAP SPACE: $17,274,287
DEADLINE CAP SPACE: $35,212,969
What are you adding?Compher to Chicago makes a lot of sense.
No thank you sirCompher for Janmark + 4th?
What would a deal look like in your opinion? No thank you sir
Really no need to take on his contract length
Are the Hawks only looking for a contract that expires this season? Per Cap Friendly, they are projected at $70 mill next season, but Seabrook is done, so that $6.875 mill comes off, thus they really have $63 mill committed. They currently have both Toews and Shaw on LTIR. Toews with an illness and Shaw with a concussion.Just so y'all understand how much cap space the Hawks have this year, we currently have about $26 million in LTIR and of the $26M salary pool that creates we're only currently using a fraction with almost $22 million in space remaining. If they are ok retaining salary this and next year, they could be a great middle team for whoever gets Ekholm / Forsberg.I could see the Leafs looking at this.
Why would Bergevin want to strengthen then team Montreal is likeliest to face in the first round?Wouldn’t be surprised to see Leafs and Habs working on something around Tatar or Danault..
