Not an obsession just calling a spade a spade. KK is my favourite Canes player and I’m still going to call him out. In the last 20 games Carolina has played:

Jesperi Kotkaniemi = 20 GP, 3 G, 0 A, 3 PTS, TOI 13:58
Brendan Lemieux = 12 GP, 2 G, 1 A, 3 PTS, TOI 7:18

Think it’s more than fine to question him and have some concerns. Your 2C should be putting up at least 10 PTS in 20 games.
KK is our future 3C to continue using that line like we have been to this point once Jordo can't go anymore. He doesn't quite have the puck luck to put up offensive numbers right now, but he's been really good defensively, and you can tell that's the role the team wants him to play

Holding off on judging Kotkaniemi's play until we learn about his alleged injury. I suspect it's something pretty seriously affecting his play. Doesn't help his stats that his linemates have been pretty bad too. Watching Koko he doesn't look bad out there or anything, he's still been skating reasonable well (compared to the start of his career here) and in the right places at the right times. If he has a somewhat serious wrist injury that will obviously affect his point production and faceoffs but with it he can still be a positive defensively and in possession which I think he has been. And we've been winning so it's just not really an issue. A fully healthy Koko come playoff time could be producing like he did to start the season.

I'm all for considering an upgrade at 2C and pushing Koko down to 3C and Staal to 4C (and eventually gone) but I don't see any realistic options right now that make sense. Lindholm is the only good option that seems to clearly be available but hard pass on giving him whatever contract he'll demand. That would really screw up our cap structure going forward. Plus trade compensation which won't be nothing. Stamkos would be interesting but he's not really an ideal C in Rod's system, would be more of a scoring winger and PP specialist -- he'd look great on Aho's wing with Svech. Certainly open to other ideas.

Henrique makes so much sense IMO.

I've long been on the Henrique bandwagon. He wouldn't cost that much to acquire, even with retention. However, he'd bump either KK/Staal/Drury off the lineup, and you'd hate to do that. Maybe Drury can play winger and Henrique slots in at 4C. In any case, you have to kick a guy out of a spot for a guy who would probably fit the system well but wouldn't be a huge upgrade over the guy you're kicking out. He would be great insurance for an injury.

Where did the idea that KK is playing injured come from? I mean, it's a safe assumption given his drop in play, but I don't think I saw anything concrete in that regard.

I only know one player who's playing injured and probably shouldn't be, and that's only because said injury has often kept him from being interviewed between periods. And he's only playing injured because the guy set to replace him in the lineup is the exact opposite of what we'd need from his replacement

I read somewhere he has been seen icing his wrist/hand several times recently. I'm not on social media so I don't think it's some random person spewing nonsense, but I don't remember the original source though so maybe it's bullshit and us just hoping injury related rather than Koko producing that poorly at full health.

Might need to drop some more hints there for us chief, as I can think of a few options that fit your description!

That stat line reminds me of something that was shown on the Rangers broadcast. They had a guy between the benches, and they caught some chirping between Lemeiux and another Rangers player. It went back and forth until this gem:

Rangers player: "Oh, you've played like 8 games, get over yourself."
Lemeiux: "Actually, it's 12 games!"

It's important stuff to get right.

That's my understanding. A couple times we weren't able to interview him because he'd need to go straight off the ice to ice up an injury.
Hopefully we can build enough of a cushion in the standings in the next month or two so we don't have to play guys through injuries like this down the stretch.

Henrique or Monahan would be a nice 2C upgrade. I would go with:

Svech-Aho-Turbo
Bunting-Henrique/Monahan-Jarvis
Noesen-KK-Necas
Drury-Staal-Fast

Martinook and Lemieux extras.

perhaps getting better...he was interviewed with Hanna after the 2nd period

Possibly, but I will say he was like the 3rd or 4th choice at that point.

Usually they like to interview someone who scored (obviously), but they also don't want to interview the same players over and over again. Because, unsurprisingly, most players want to get to the lockerroom after playing a period, and if we interview them too often, their willingness to be interviewed drops.

So the plan was to interview Martinook after the 2nd, but then he got injured, so that threw that out the window. We had already interviewed Drury and Svech recently in previous games, so eventually the producer was like "What about Pesce? He's from New York, right?
