Which recent trade do you think was the best for the Toronto Maple Leafs' future? Just a refresher, here are each of the trades in their entirety:

To Ottawa Senators: Dion Phaneuf, Casey Bailey, Matt Frattin, Ryan Rupert & Cody Donaghey
To Toronto Maple Leafs: Jared Cowen, Milan Michalek, Colin Greening, Tobias Lindberg & 2017 2nd round pick

To Colorado Avalanche: Shawn Matthias
To Toronto Maple Leafs: Colin Smith & 2016 4th round pick

To San Jose Sharks: Roman Polak & Nick Spaling
To Toronto Maple Leafs: 2017 2nd round pick, 2018 2nd round pick & Raffi Torres

To San Jose Sharks: James Reimer & Jeremy Morin
To Toronto Maple Leafs: Alex Stalock, Ben Smith & conditional 2018 4th round pick

To Washington Capitals: Daniel Winnik & 2016 5th round pick
To Toronto Maple Leafs: Connor Carrick, 2016 2nd round pick & Brooks Laich

getting rid of Phaneuf's contract was nice but he was playing pretty well for us.

but i'll vote Polak trade simply because the return was more than we thought it would be... Winnik trade being similar as well.

2nd + B prospect for Winnik is ridiculous! If anyone suggested that even yesterday people would've assumed it was a satire

The Phaneuf trade because they did not have to retain any of contract.

However the return Lou was able to get for Polak/Spaling and Winnik was just as good because no one would have thought that prior to those trades happening.

The Phaneuf trade, Winnik trade, and Polak trade were all solid (So was the Matthias trade considering he got more than I expected) for different reasons. Phaneuf's trade didn't really net us a whole lot of value but it is going to save us a lot of cap space long term and we could end up flipping Greening and Michalek next trade deadline or in the summer, so that may look better in a years time.

As of now though it's between the Winnik and Polak trade. For me one of the 2nd rounders is = to the 2nd rounder from the Winnik trade. Carrick and the other 2nd rounder are probably fairly close as well. The big difference between them is in the cap dumps, Torres and Laich. Torres if off the cap at the end of the season, Laich is on the cap next season, thing is I think the Leafs can flip Laich at the next deadline if they retain salary, he does bring something to the table.

So TLDR; Winnik trade

Phaneuf trade was nice, but Winnik's trade was exceptional work.

A 2nd + Carrick is just amazing especially after looking at what sellers received for their players.

The Winnik trade. Not a player that could've walked for nothing, but also not a contract that had to be moved and I think the return largely reflected that.

I voted Winnik, because I didn't even think we would move him. Carrick also looked pretty good on our blueline tonight as a 21 year old. He's got a bright future.

1. Winnik - Liked Carricks game a lot watching the Marlies play Hershey, plus we got a 2nd THIS draft. Also got Laich who could potentially turn into another pick next deadline... We got assets for now and the future.

2. Phaneuf - Got rid of a bad contract, Grabbed a good prospect in Lindberg (Not as good as Carrick IMO), and grabbed a 2nd for next year. Michalek could have some value next season as well so it has potential to be better than the Winnik one. Cowen & Greening hold this down for me right now.

3. Polak - Great trade for us, just don't like how the picks are 2 and 3 drafts away.

Polak deal...even though neither of the seconds is for this draft, the return of two seconds is far more than his market value should have been.

Pretty sure the SJ trades was a total package split for each teams benefit.

1 . San Jose raises the bar(for rivals) on the price for d-men.
2. Leafs save face on the Kessel trade.
3. Leafs appear to get what they can for Reimer because they can't sign him(so it doesn't look like a tank job) to season ticket holders.

Winnik trade. In what world is he worth a 2nd and 2 NHL players? Laich is still serviceable but overpaid grossly and Carrick is a #5-6 defenseman. Winnik is a serviceable "bottom 6" pk specialist who may not be around after his current deal is up.

Polak trade still blows my mind....gotta go with that if sheer return is what is most impotant. Getting rid of the Dion contract was massive tho...so slightly conflicted but I'll stick with the former..

Phaneuf is the most important trade; he's overpaid but he's a good defencemen who can play a top 3 role. Polak and Spaling, however, are complete suckage. They are terrible players, imo; and I'm shocked they got two 2nds. The Polak/Spaling trade is easily the best trade for me.

Best return: Polak trade no doubt.

Best overall trade? Phaneuf IMO, unloading 5 years x $7 million without retaining+no cap dump longer then 1 year.
