Delusional Leaf fans will say Tavares.

"PPG"
"SJ offered 13M, he came at a discount"
"Performing exactly how he was expected"
"xG%"
"Faceoffs"
"Work Ethic"

f*** off we had Matthews - Kadri already and we have seen how it played out.

It's 50/50 whether you get an ok deal out of the contract, though there are only a few slam dunks
Some good/decent examples - Looking at 7mil contracts with term, post lockout
- Pietrangelo is an example of a good contract, Vegas won the cup and Pietrangelo was a part of that
- Chara was an elite signing for the Bruins
- Maybe Kovalchuk as well if he didn't go back to Russia
- Bobrovsky is overpaid, but hasn't been bad per se
- Brian Campbell was a decent #2 dman for what he signed for
- Dougie Hamilton TBD

The rest are mediocre to downright horrible
- Karlsson won the Norris, but just one good season doesn't make up for it
- Johnny Gaudreau is looking mediocre right now, but it's early
- Tavares was good for years 1-5, but not good enough. Maybe it would have been ok if the Leafs actually had playoff success
- Ryan Suter and Parise were both bought out in the middle of the contract and were not close to worth it
- Brad Richards was bought out early in the contract
- Scott Gomez sucked and was bought out
- Chris Drury sucked and was bought out

Not sure if he was big ticket, but Brian Rafalski continued to chug along in Detroit aside from retiring due to injury. Scott Niedermayer was great in Anaheim.

Maybe doesn't count because he stayed, but Patrik Elias was definitely fielding offers in 2006. He considered the Rangers/Kings before calling back Lou to hammer out a deal.

Panarin and Pietrangelo definitely the two best in recent memory. Pavelski is a decent one too, that's worked out better than anyone could have expected for longer than anyone could have expected but not really sure it would qualify as big ticket

Hyman to Edmonton

Yeah idk, I think it's pretty impossible to best Hyman. 80+ point guys that score 40+ goals don't usually come for 5.5 million AAV in an RFA contract... From a UFA contract?!

I think teams have better UFAs, but not better UFA contracts.

Panarin is definitely a good one - the Rangers make big splashes basically every year and I can think of a few that didn't work out as expected but Panarin has been great for them.
