Svech MIGHT be there day 1, but look at Draisatil. NHL level skating etc, he looked lost day 1 and Oil had to nurture him along for several months. You might be right but it is not a given.

Those guys are all that and a bag of chips, but so is Zib, who is a righty shot.

Draisaitl isn’t comparable to Svechnikov pre-Draft. Draisaitl did have skating concerns while Svechnikov’s skating is effortless. Svechnikov is more on the level of Hall/Stamkos/MacKinnon as THE top forward of the Draft.

I’m not saying that Zib is worse than those. Only that Zib would be obtainable with a package like Hanifin/Pesce + sweeteners.

Also Georgiev while taking 4+m disaster Darling off your hands is a major consideration. Georgiev may/not turn into true 1G but his brief sample left nothing to not like. Yes, you have to add, but this provides immediate elc stopgap that is useful part of the equation.

Canes top-9 is actually pretty full up. They also have Kuokkanen, Saarela, Gauthier, Nic Roy, Morgan Geekie, Stelio Mattheos, etc. in the AHL all waiting for their chance.

Absolutely Buchnevich, Zib, and Andersson are higher quality than the current Canes depth. But the Canes don’t need an improvement in depth. They need Superstar talent like Svechnikov. Something NYR just doesn’t have to trade.

Explanation: the core deal has Skjei + 9OA going for 3OA +. The + by Mon. is required or no deal. Habs are split but due to min depth seem leaning to deal 3OA if there is both a considerable piece AND a top 10 this draft coming back. Return from NYR fits the bill, but something more needs to go to NY.
Until it is clear what is a better fit for the balance of that deal, the bold is a placeholder. IF Mon. surrenders next year’s 1st, Rangers would surrender both those 2nds this year. The rationale there is Skjei is worth betw. 5-9OA so 3OA is more, NY has to add, the 2018 1st, is presumed to be equal to next year, but this year is a better draft and NY has to wait; so Habs add. But they are not equal adds, hence Rangers add 2 2nds this year.
Skjei a very, very strong skater LD who actually plays d, barely entering his prime at 24, helps get Montreal defense back on track and anchors it for 6 or so years. 9OA means a 2nd young asset for Habs in top ten. Rangers gamble on higher pick = better asset, Canadiens play is quality with depth. As said above, there are additional secondary pieces which have to be finalized, represented by the placeholders above paragraph.

I dont get this at all for Habs, they already have like 4 second round picks, dont think they need 2 more. Habs would never surrender next year first for 2 seconds, not even Bergvin is that stupid.

Svech is not can't miss, but obv. I consider worth the gamble.

Svech [+ Hanifin etc] may ultimately be more than the NY package but arguably that is not in the short term.

Do this deal, and you only need another G, arguably you are top contender for East Conf/cup final appearance.

No, the rest of your assets do not command a deal for any piece on NYR. You want Zib, cough it up.

We don't want "Zib" or any other player on NYR. Svech will be available on day 1. Book it.

If this was actually proposed to our GM he'd wind up wallowing in a pool of his own crapulance as he'd be laughing so hard he'd lose control of all bodily functions.

All these wild proposals for #2OA are really disgusting.
